dkipp 14 Posted November 14, 2014 Hi Everyone: I'm trying to make this image (two layers) with a big k and a name, I dont want the vinyl to lay on top of another when applying. The big K will be one color while the name is another. So I need to figure out how the big k will exclude where the name overlaps it, so it will be one smooth design. I have attached a image that hopefully will help my lame explanation as I'm sure I'm not making since.. I tried using the exclude option in sure cuts a lot, but it still is printing everything as one design. So basically the big k will be choped up while the name remains intact...Hopefully this makes since, I'm sure some of you know in your sleep how to do this.. I will also watermark it for exact location and need it in two layers so I can hide one while one prints and then do it again for the other color Thanks in advance
Wildgoose 4,200 Posted November 15, 2014 Just make sure both of the elements are fully expanded and then make them compound paths and then your minus function will work properly. If you want a gap then make an offset path on the k and use it to punch out the words behind leaving your original in place. You should copy your original before you minus it because it will be gone. Then use edit>paste in place to put it exactly back.

Wildgoose 4,200 Posted November 16, 2014 AI can be daunting to the beginner but once you learn it you'll always be glad you stuck it out.
dkipp 14 Posted November 18, 2014 Yeah, I use PS daily, but almost never touched AI. I'm starting to phase AI in a little more, also been doing tutorials on lynda... Thanks again
