    Newb question... adhesive

Several companies make spray adhesive that remains tacky like a decal that you can buy at HD or Lowe's but I've never tried it in direct sunlight so the issue of yellowing might come up.

    Best Cutter for Low Usage

Hey Edge , I had the same reaction . I am always looking for a new perspective about everything . I would like to know how others would take advertising/promoting competitors merchandise on a site they own , support & pay for . I admit I don't understand " BIG " business enough , but I would nuke any post , thread or member ( after a warning ) who did that if I had a forum . I wonder if other forum owners would be as congenial as USCutter ( I Don't think so !!! ) I have a website I advertise used mobile homes on . I list mobile homes that belong to a few business associates that sub-contract from me . It seems insane to think I would let a direct competitors stuff be listed or promoted as better than mine on my site . Anybody feel different from that ? A local mom & pop hardware store (Battels) in my area sometimes refers me to Lowe's or Home Depot when they can't fit my need but that alone makes me want to give them first crack at any project I have. I think it shows real class to not show fear of the competition and at least in my mind makes me feel like they have my best interest in mind. I also have a local mechanic I've referred any and all who ask if I know an honest mechanic to for the same reason. I thought I needed a new cat and he sent me to a guy that stocked aftermarket exhaust hangers rather than make me leave the truck so he could order the part and do it himself and make a buck, or worse, charge me for a new catilitic converter. Now the jacka$$ S.O.B. shopper that is only concerned with getting a deal even a your expense is understandably a whole other story, but then again that guy is the first to bad mouth you even after you solved his problem and hold a bad referral against you... forever.

Paisley or Tie Dye Vinyl, Where to buy?

Try their "Other Vinyl Films" section... http://www.signwarehouse.com/c-vinyl-supplies.html I'm sure there's other sources but I happened to me looking at their paper catalog and saw these.

New to vinyl cutting, some questions...

Contour cutting is cutting around the outline of an image, heat press is for applying heat press vinyl to shirts, clothing etc. You don't need one to do vinyl decals. Correct, most people will take you in the same direction as they chose to take and frankly I'm no exception to that rule... I have had a pcut for a few years now and love it, as far as I can see some love them and some hate them. Look in the help section of any forum and you can quickly see that all brands have an issue or two and most are due to user error. As for MAC, you're on your own there, I'm a strictly Microsoft/Linux user which is all supported, you can try a dual boot computer (Are MACs capable of dual boot?) if MAC is not supported.

Newb Urgent Question about printing stickers

I do mine the same exact way, but I use Sihl 3988. Excellent results. What's the pigment printable 3M? I have a Graphtec CE5000-40 and it works great for quick, reliable contour cutting. It's fairly expensive at $995 before forum discounts, but worth every penny. The CE5000-60 is the same machine, but only 24" instead of 15" and comes with a nice stand. It's $600 more though, but again, worth every penny. I'm sticking with Graphtec machines from here on out. So really, you could get one of those for a lot less than a print/cut machine, and your productivity will increase. And if you're using the pigment inks like lockandload1 and myself, you can easily maintain your 1 day turnaround. I pride myself for the same thing and haven't had any customer complaints about the quality of my printed decals. 3M 8522 and lam with 8520... or was that the other way around. I can't remenber but I'll check the rolls out tonight and edit the post. I know MacTac'c 1958/1858 which I found out about on this forum http://forum.uscutter.com/index.php?topic=30359.0 is said to work but I've yet to see for myself. Here's the link to MacTac that was included in the post... http://mactac.com/fileadmin/user_upload/Graphic/Sales_Literature/MAC2693_GraphicProd_DigitalPrint.pdf BTW: Thanks to orbitgrfx for the original post.

Newb Urgent Question about printing stickers

I do vinyl my short run printing using my WF1100 CISS equipped wide format printer and 3M pigment printable vinyl, overlam. Depending upon a 3rd party for occasional decal needs proved to be too inconvenient.

    4 x 8 Foot Sign Board

I use the glossy white (wood based) paneling from Lowe's (about $15 for a 4X8) for my signboard needs, other than that there are lots of other wood, plastic, metal based substrates available for signage from your local sign supply store in a wide range of prices.

Found a corner punch, now find me grommet pliers.

I've gone through a couple cheepos myself but don't have enough of a need for a large industrial grade either. This one looks better than the others I've tried.
  10. Just keep it in port 6 and you should be okay. Also, sometimes it's re-spooling the rest of the cut and will begin cutting a minute or so later so don't "reset".
  11. Depends on what it was cutting. Letters are easy, you just cut the missing letters.

Purchasing Today...the GoldCut? Do you like it?

Never heard of the GoldCut but I can tell you that my Pcut is a workhorse.

    warning or not.

Yeah, sorry about that... pretty rude of me. :-
  14. I'd agree with the need for a UPS to combat surge issues and with regard to the static issue it's not really the electrical system but the environment which may be the same if both houses are in the same weather system. I just started sticking a sheet of Bounce into my rolls when cutting (especially in the winter), not only does my shop smell fantastic but it really does totally eliminate the static build up. Two bad boards sounds fishy to me... I imagine you'd be left on your own if another should go out on you. Also, in my area the Edison company will come out and do an energy survey that also diagnoses power spikes for free to see what may be happening, your's may offer the same.

Sorry not work but I just got my first plotter!

Sweet deal, congratulations! I lost a job a while back and managed to feed everyone, pay my bills, keep my house and take a couple of vacations, all without cracking into my savings thanks to my loud ass 24" pcut. Still be living off my plotter too if I hadn't found another life sucking banking job I couldn't turn down. :'(

I used to get my flags from Rich at Vista flags when he was local but ever since he moved too far away to make sense I've been getting them from Carlos at Pacific flags, I call him up and tell him what I need and rather than pay shipping I meet him in a parking lot next to Disneyland on the way home from my day job. I know he ships and his feather flags are only $50 for the flag (blank or one of 800 designs) 3 piece pole and base of your choice with better pricing on three or more sets. For the image/lettering I use(d) cheap banner grade vinyl pressed for 10 seconds at 160 degrees. The vinyl sticks longer than the flag lasts so I stopped wasting plastisol. I've been talking to Carlos lately about using my WF1100 to do transfers on some blanks because he doesnt have a resource for quick small run custom flags so I'll probably start doing flags again in my spare time.

    Best cutter for me?

There are several dealers that post their wares on ebay as well as the ones that US Cutter sells. Other than that from the cheapest to most costly they will all cut vinyl and offer varied levels of support.

Bigger is better, I've had mine mothballed for a little while (Semi New FT Job) but it quickly paid for itself by pressing custom flags at $60-$99 apiece for just one customer's car lot. Agree with superduty also on bigger shirts being good profit, unfortunatly the larger some people get the harder it is to find fashions and trendy t's so makes sense that they'd pay more for custom t's in current styles... should look into that myself.

    warning or not.

I haven't worked for Green Tree since 2002, it became Conseco Finance at one point and then due to the discovery of Enron type balance on receipt accounting had a massive stock drop from $48 to about $1 in a week or so and then went BK shortly after I left and reverted back to seprate companies so the association wouldn't continue to drag the insurance company down with them. We thought we were on top of the world back then and it was never going to end. They had employee incentives for production like cruises, vacations to exclusive resorts, retreats, Dom Perrion(sp?) parties where famous chefs prepared lavish meals and banquets. Every couple of months we'd go to work on a Friday and find out that they were loading us in "limo busses" to Las Vegas that afternoon... not to mention the fact that six figure incomes were the norm. Those were the days, young, greedy, inconsiderate and always on the verge of a heart attack. Funny thing is, none of the old crew I still speak to would ever admit that they were the greedy bastards they used to be back then. Every one became so PC soon after the guilt set in

    warning or not.

Just checked out your web site, man I made sooo much money in the late 80's early 90's financing those things when I worked at Green Tree, I still have some of it. Sad to see them going for such a small fraction of the 50-60k I used to value them at back then.

Link to some free t-shirt designs.

Well, on a positive note. The pack is only $10 which gives you full license to do as you please with the designs in the pack. Not a bad investment, especially if you like some of the other freebies the artist is giving away... fair is fair!
