help! sloppy cutting..kinda still new at this lol

OK, still need help on this!!! The issue from the pics above really isnt there anymore, I think I had way to much blade out at that point (which I did to try to troubleshoot my original problem) The issue I have now is that it is still leaving tiny pieces randomly attached. Whether its big or little cuts I'm doing. I can't seem to find any consistency with it, IE not on just corners, or certain letters, etc it seems almost random. VERY frustrating because 1. Its making weeding very difficult and 2. its making my finished product look like crap!! Because it leaves a tiny piece connected I have to pull on it, and it stretches it, or moves it, or leaves a little tail hanging there where the vinyl broke. What I have tried: Changing offset a little Took blade out, sprayed a little wd40 into the blade holder. made sure blade spins freely Tried a new blade Did blade height test w/ cutting the vinyl making sure its not going deeper than it needs to Tried more blade, less blade, etc Using latest versoin of SCAL What else can I do? Does anyone have any recommendations?

help! sloppy cutting..kinda still new at this lol

Thanks. I dont quite have a full understanding of what the offset is supposed to do and how to adjust it. So that helps a little. But can somene answer my question on how to properly set the offset? (I know WHERE to do it in the software) but I dont know what I'm inputting, or what to be looking for on the cuts.

how do you set offset? my blade package says .25 - 1.mm does that mean i want to input values inbetween that, into sure cuts a lot offset setting? and yes these little things are no fun... only doing small quantity so not so bad!!

again on larger stuff its nowhere near as bad, but it will do it just about every time in several spots.
  7. So im still new with all of this, for multi colored i understand the concept of layers but what I dont understand is what to do if they over lap. I know laying vinnyl over the vinyl is fine, but what about edges? See this example, I created it real quick as a test. I cut one out and stuck it ona desk and it looks ok, but I have to do a big (over 2 ft) log that will be similar with the text over lapping a shape.. will you see the line real bad? (You barley notice it on the desk but im worried on a larger scale it wont look good).. would it be best to cut out and leave empty space inbetween the text and the star? (just a small amount?) What is best way to do it? im worried if i try to leave a little blank space it will be very hard to line up right (even using reg marks) example:

easy question with layering, help please!!

not sure if thickness is an issue or not. because of the 3 layers the transfer tape didnt lay down so well.. which im sure will not be an issue when applied.. but it made for a few air bubbles and such which i usually try to avoid, just for a more professional appearance. but it came out pretty good.

easy question with layering, help please!!

i made a small 12" test, rather than the 30+ inch real one.. what I did was combine all 3 layers and weld (union the path) together to make the whole outline.. use that as bottom layer. then for 2nd layer did the same for the outline/text..then the last layer is just the text. that way everything lined up on top of eachother. it worked out perfect, but im worried that if im just a touch off anywhere it might screw it up..but i guess well find out. this looks like the best way to do it.. other than seeing lines or something.i just really want to know how the pros do this and what the "right" way is!

easy question with layering, help please!!

bump.. please help. have another one like this to do. the customer doesnt want space inbetween.. It will be 3 layer... text with an outline, and then a drop shadow. Whats the best way to go about it? the text/outline is easy..obviously the white text will sit on top of the black outline.. but what about the red shadow.. Should that shadow be the full size of the whole logo, and then line up the text/outline perfect in it? (my worry is that it wont line up perfect and you will see bits and pieces of it underneath the edges, or the opposite, you the top layer may over hang a little and not stick then) Or should I just lay the outlined text right over the off set shadow? My worry is that you might see a line across it where the bottom layer stops?? Example

    question.. mod podge + banner?

Hi everyone. was wondering if anyone has ever thought of trying to use mod podge over top of a banner to help keep it sealed good? I just did one and a few spots are kind of loose and im nervous about it.. dont want to hand it over and 3 days later letters are fallinng off. anyone ever use it? just wonder how it would work if its flexible or not..or if it would make it too glossy
  12. Hi, new to cutting and designing and pretty much all of this, but anyways... I'm trying to practice some multi layer stuff. With SCAL is there an easy way to insert registration marks? I only see the option to do it when printing also, I don't want to print. I have a MH series, no laser or anything. Just trying to add marks to line up my layers. So for now until I find a better way... I manually am importing registration marks. However, when I go to cut, it would be very nice if I can do cut by color.. however it will then not cut my registration marks on each layer, only the layer corresponding to the color I have them. I'd imagine there has to be a better, smarter, quicker way to do this with SCAL. Can someone point me in the right direction? I've searched forums and youtube with no luck with this specific software.... Thank you very much!

registration mark question, driving me nuts - help!!

yeah i'm not following either!!! Or maybe I am and we are just communicating it differently. I beleive what you are saying is to have a layer with JUST the reg marks... and leave it visible at ALL TIMES, and then HIDE the layer you dont want to print, so for a 2 color example.. youd have 1 layer for say red, and 1 layer for say blue, and then 1 layer for your reg mark. You're saying to just one of the colors, so to cut red, hide the blue layer, then cut. then hide the red layer, make blue visable, then cut again. Is that what you're saying? If so that is what I am doing.. However I was hoping to use the feature of "cut by color"... meaning I dont have to go in and manually hide layers, and then cut each time... its not horrible to do it the way I mentioned, it would just be way better and less confusing if working with several objects with differnet layers on each.. am i making any sense? lol.. Thanks everyone for the replies and assistance.

registration mark question, driving me nuts - help!!

thanks for the responses. That is pretty much what I was doing.. I would just hide the layers, leaving what I want to cut + the reg mark layer, cut, go back, hide that layer, show a new one, cut, etc It just seemed like there should be a more efficient way to do it. I saw some videos with other software that had registration mark features built into it. I was looking for something just to save some time, and to be able to use the 'cut by color' feature. If I have 5 different objects on my mat it can be pretty confusing trying to show/hide all of the different layers, where as if I could just cut by the color it would save a ton of time, and be a little less confusing... as you would color coordinate with the vinyl your cutting and then its a no brainer what you need to cut next. so, assuming then there is no way to do that? Thanks again for the response so far!
