cutting one line not outline

Recommended Posts

howdy..

newbee here, finally figured out how to bring image in and send to plotter.

Sorry if i dont know the right words to use but if i display an image in outline/wireframe for each line it shows two lines.

Guess it has something to do with the width/stroke/offset ? of each line.

But i need to cut some things with only one line between shapes......how do i do that.

What words do i look up in the help section to show me......

or is it something i need to do in illustrator before i bring the image in.

thanks....pete

thanks for reply jay

i dont have the file here but i was able to create something.

Pretend i just want to cut a trianlge out of a piece of vinyl.

I drew the triangle in photoshop and saved it as a bmb, imported it, changed mode, and vectorized it.

If you view it normal it shows a single line, it you view in outline/wire frame i shows up as two lines ( a triangle in a triangle )

sending it to the plotte will cut two lines.

this make sense.....

thanks....pete

Looks like you drew those by hand then scanned them in. You can create in SignBlazer. Select Ployline, right click in the design area then select "Corner". Left click for the three points of your triangle, then right click and select "close". If you are really dead set on using what you have you can select it then do "Split Objects".  This will allow you to delete the middle part as shown in the attached fiile. Notice in the right hand triangle that you still have a bunch of little gray elements that need cleaned up because your vector file was not clean.

thanks Jay

It happens with most of the images ive been trying.

Im sure SB is doing the right thing, in some other projects ill need the two lines but in a few i dont.

SB sees the line and wants to draw the outline (2 lines),

guess i need to figure out how to tell SB no matter how wide the line is just cut once in the middle......lol

Lets see, mabey ill confuse you more by trying to show you what im up to.

Heres a simple picture that i blasted on some glass.

I put the picture on some paint mask then hand cut with exacto knife on the lines.

I hand cut on the lines, then i pull each piece off and blast it.

I make the seams by blasting a little deeper on each line.

Even though the lines in the original picture may be thick, i only need to cut it once, dont need the outline.

thanks again.....pete
