I used contact paper ( the stuff you get at the hardware store) it is cheap and holds up well for 1 or 2 uses. Or if you want to be more percise just but some cheap vinyl and cut it from that. the paint mask stuff is not cheap the last i looked so i just use the vinyl trick. just add some heat when you remove it and it comes off fine.
