creepyfred 0 Posted January 10, 2012 I am still very excited with every thing i cut. I am posting a picture of my very first cut, the mustach that i put in the window where my son usually looks out at me when i get home from work. it makes me laugh every day. The second is my first 3 colour (5 layer) cut that i was hoping to get some help with. I could not find a way to make the white and the green cut out to show the black underneath them i tried bringing to front, played with merging layers (illustrator is still new and very confusing for me). I ended layering black, white, black, green, black, then the tiny white dot in the middle. I was using signcut and figured out the registration marks eventually. I later installed the signblazer trial and found punch out tool, but that made the white layer with no cuts at all. i am not afraid to do my own trial and error and research but i may have run out of ideas. any help would be appreciated. cheers. fred wow my windows are dirty
Jay2703 704 Posted January 10, 2012 In Illustrator, select both objects and Object + Compound Path + Make. It will turn the object on top to a cutout from the lower object. http://screencast.com/t/zcVzPXuv4 Jay
creepyfred 0 Posted January 10, 2012 holy crap, Jay you are my new best friend. I did that then filled the three different colours in and its perfect! not that it matters but the black is a cut out as well, right now i just plan on not weeding the inside outlines of the black, is that unprofessional or is there a better way? i have tried before to remove and make the black a seperate layer but then i have problems sizing them the same. regardless you helped me a great deal. cheers. fred
Jay2703 704 Posted January 10, 2012 Your black should be solid and the white and green layered on top of it.

Jay2703 704 Posted January 10, 2012 Here you go. I included a video showing how I did it. Tips: Right Click in the color bar lets you select objects by color (CRTL lets you select more than one color at a time) I use the Vertical Nudge to move things a set distance then move them back when I am done. (lower right corner, click in the box to change the value) http://screencast.com/t/iqTelgPoz3 new eye2.eps

creepyfred 0 Posted January 11, 2012 ok i am learning, when you seperated the colours you grouped one green wing tip with the white wing. it took me a while un grouping, re grouping re colour and punch again but i got it. i am also on the second boring chapter of signblazer tutorial. i am not to sure why but i put your eps in illustrator, bucket filled the wing tip and resaved, and it put be back to square one in sign blazer. wierd. cheers
Jay2703 704 Posted January 11, 2012 Sorry about that. I realized what I had done but thought you would get the idea from the video.
