Can I import a file from Illustrator into SBE with only cuts, no silhouettes.

Recommended Posts

I'm experimenting with cutting some decorative paper chains, and I have them laid out in Illustrator CS1.

The design has no closed cuts so that it honeycombs out when finished. Is there a way to import such a thing?

If I outline the stroke, what's the minimum width I can get away with on sticky

board mounted paper without messing up the blade?

Failing that, is it possible to draw open cuts in SBE?

Still a NOOB, but doing my best!

I just ran across your thread.  Not sure if you figured this out.

I have made a solid cut line in SBE, but never actually cut it.  So I don't know if it will cut as you want, but you can give it a try.

Select the Polyline button, draw your line, when you have your line as you want it, hit the "select button".  Doing this will leave an open line.

By cutting a non contected line may cause your machine to cut very erraically.

This is known as an open path vinyl plotters don`t respond well.

Give a go and see what happens.

i cut a design with some open paths the other day... pasted the vector from illustrator to SB to cut.  it seemed to do just fine.  i used the opened paths (just straight lines - acted as a ribbed segments) to act as a texture in the design and it worked exactly like i thought it would.  not sure if yours will give you the same results but its worth a shot.
