Kerberus 0 Posted September 1, 2010 Hi all. I just got my own vinyl cutter (MH721) and have started a small sign shop. (no suprise given the forums i'm in... ) I'm not new to the industry, I ran the vinyl side of a sign shop for two and a half years, and freelanced as an artist at another locally so I know that side of the business pretty well... its the pricing that trips me up... I've got my first large® job and I was wondering if you all could tell me if my pricing is in the ballpark... or maybe steer me in the right direction if i'm off base... The customer wants: one or two color signs on aluminum (or steel?) (x) - 18"x24" bin signs 1 - 3'x4' sign 1 - 18"x8" sign 2 - 24"x36" signs 1 - 24"x8" sign 1 - 3'x6' sign and I think i'm going to pitch him on some coro way-finding signs because it was a pain to find this place, while the other recycling place a few miles up the road had great signage, and a line out the door... i'm thinking in the $1,000.00 range for whats listed here, but i haven't had a chance to price the aluminum or what it will cost to have it cut down. Also, i haven't actually designed the signs since this is just an estimate and i don't know how much vinyl will actually be used... How does this price sound to you all? And what do you normally pay for aluminum substrate? any help you could provide would be greatly appreciated, I would like for this to be the first in a regular stream of customers... Kerberus 0 Posted September 1, 2010 I know, thats why i haven't submitted the estimate, yet. I'm just wondering if that price sounds about right for what he's asking. I was hoping this forum would be able to set me straight if what i think it should cost is off... rrc1962 0 Posted September 1, 2010 C-Bond or .040 color one side is about $40 per sheet and you should be able to get it all out of one sheet. What does "(x) - 18"x24" bin signs" mean? Can't price it if you don't know how many. What's a bin sign? Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
Kerberus 0 Posted September 1, 2010 Sorry, i don't know how many of these he wants total, he said he has a number of large bins for recyclables and wants a sign to hang on the front of each... i was just going to give him a per sign estimate for those... I called around today and found a good substrate, aluminum with white on one side for $34 a sheet and 1.50 per cut to trim it down so I think i'm good on the substrate... knowing that, i think 1,000 may be too high... i padded that number to compensate for the substrate but since thats going to be pretty cheap... I ran all of this through my little cost spread sheet i've created on googledocs to help me with pricing (still a work in progress) and with a little "I want your business" discount my total comes to $821.16.Thats for all the signs i listed, other than the one i don't have a count on.
