  1. Okay, thanks. This is from uscutter: There are two possibilities that come to mind. The first is it is possible that a pinch roller is causing this. A way to test that is to put material in the cutter and press the offline/pause button and press the down arrow and watch the material feed through the cutter. If you see it start to track left or right then just increase the tension of the pinch roller to compensate by using the brass thumb screws on the back. The second possibility is the MH max cut length is 8ft. but not with all cuts, if the cut is detailed and close to 8ft. it can over load the memory of the cutter which would explain the randomness. We'll see if this works.
  2. We always prefeed, and try to get it to track good. I'll see if I can look up some tips for better tracking. My boyfriend tried to do the step-by-step cutting, but nothing happened. Any suggestions? Thanks
  3. Hello everyone, My boyfriend and I purchased a MH721 about three years ago. It has given us lots of problems over the years, but my boyfriend is always able to trick it into working again. Unfortunatly, its being a little stubborn this time. We're using signblazer and we have it connected through a dynex USB with a keyspan on the way. Its grounded to the stand. It is sitting on carpet. :-( So, heres the problem: We're trying to cut a 72" x6" racing stripe. Everytime we cut or draw it, the width of the stripes changes near the end, OR the width of one of the spaces between stripes will end up wider than the other space. I hope I'm being clear here. We've checked the carriage and the roller, cleaned the knife, changed settings, stuffed the roll with dryer sheets. Heck, I've been thinking about putting wood flooring down. I read somewhere that the MH721 has a low memory, and doesn't do well with lengths longer than 72"...that I might need to buy a 4MB chip. Anyone know anything about that? Any other suggestions?
  4. It's a 3'x8' banner, 2 colors, as shown in the image... I'm not worried about the little bit of black... they requested it, and i have black scraps enough to cover it so i'm still calling it a 2 color job... I'm just wondering if my pricing is high or low? I got $130.00 for it... what do you all think?
  5. Sorry, i don't know how many of these he wants total, he said he has a number of large bins for recyclables and wants a sign to hang on the front of each... i was just going to give him a per sign estimate for those... I called around today and found a good substrate, aluminum with white on one side for $34 a sheet and 1.50 per cut to trim it down so I think i'm good on the substrate... knowing that, i think 1,000 may be too high... i padded that number to compensate for the substrate but since thats going to be pretty cheap... I ran all of this through my little cost spread sheet i've created on googledocs to help me with pricing (still a work in progress) and with a little "I want your business" discount my total comes to $821.16.Thats for all the signs i listed, other than the one i don't have a count on. Does this sound about right? any assist would be greatly appreciated. ;D
  6. I know, thats why i haven't submitted the estimate, yet. I'm just wondering if that price sounds about right for what he's asking. I was hoping this forum would be able to set me straight if what i think it should cost is off... I'll be calling local metal shops today to price the substrate, so i'll have a better idea of the actual cost after that.
  7. Hi all. I just got my own vinyl cutter (MH721) and have started a small sign shop. (no suprise given the forums i'm in... ) I'm not new to the industry, I ran the vinyl side of a sign shop for two and a half years, and freelanced as an artist at another locally so I know that side of the business pretty well... its the pricing that trips me up... I've got my first large® job and I was wondering if you all could tell me if my pricing is in the ballpark... or maybe steer me in the right direction if i'm off base... The customer wants: one or two color signs on aluminum (or steel?) (x) - 18"x24" bin signs 1 - 3'x4' sign 1 - 18"x8" sign 2 - 24"x36" signs 1 - 24"x8" sign 1 - 3'x6' sign and I think i'm going to pitch him on some coro way-finding signs because it was a pain to find this place, while the other recycling place a few miles up the road had great signage, and a line out the door... i'm thinking in the $1,000.00 range for whats listed here, but i haven't had a chance to price the aluminum or what it will cost to have it cut down. Also, i haven't actually designed the signs since this is just an estimate and i don't know how much vinyl will actually be used... How does this price sound to you all? And what do you normally pay for aluminum substrate? any help you could provide would be greatly appreciated, I would like for this to be the first in a regular stream of customers... Thanks in advance, Kerberus
