ff-extreme 6 Posted January 6, 2010 I'm looking for a little guidance, I have done a vehicle wrap in the past and I use Oracal's Orajet 3551G when I do. I was asked to do a wrap on a fire helmet. This thing is kicking my butt! I guess the small size and the shape is what the problem is. I was looking for any suggestions as to tips and stuff on how to handle it. I did a search for videos for wrapping a motorcycle gas tank as I assume it would be similar but didn't find any. Has anyone done a helmet of gas tank before? jeremySI 18 Posted January 6, 2010 helmets are like the hardest thing you could ever try to wrap perfectly, thank god it isnt a motorcycle helmet you are doing
Wes Phifer 0 Posted January 6, 2010 I read somewhere (but haven't tried it) to attach the vinyl to a hoop slightly larger than the helmet and push the helmet through it. Sound crazy to me but I've heard it works. Looks like it would stretch it alot but I guess you will have to strech it to get a flat piece on a round helmet. Has anyone else heard of this? That sounds like a good idea. Maybe also use a hair dryer to warm the vinyl and help press it down. I would also probably use some 3M Primer 94 in the roots of the bends to keep it from pulling up. Might take a few tries... Obviously, I wouldn't recommend they actually use this helmet..
tekcorps 50 Posted January 6, 2010 Fire helmet = fireman's helmet? If so, my concern would be how the wrap would hold up if used in the line of duty. Catch fire, melt etc...
ff-extreme 6 Posted January 6, 2010 Thanks for the ideas Ill have to play around and report back. The helmet would not be used in th line of duty it is a collection piece.
