question about importing files into signblazer

I got my MH871 in last week and have cut some simple text.  When I first got the plotter I tried to run off the usb port, but after doing some reading here I switched to the parallel connection.  When I was attempting to set up the usb connection I installed a driver that I couldn't get to work.  Here's the problem: when I attempt to open or import a file into sb it only lets me select files from my c: drive.  I cannot access the desktop or any other drives.  Not sure what the deal is.  I usually run a mac so I'm not sure if it's the software/pc or the user.  thanks for any help.

BTW I'm running windows xp pro on a IBM thinkpad with a docking station.
