Today, it started

Recommended Posts

Hello all,

I was pointed to the forum by a gentleman on the phone at US Cutter today.  For the record, the person who took my call was a pleasure to speak with.  Very pleased, considering not all "blind" purchases from Ebay are as pleasurable.

Took delivery of a 24" Pcut plotter today.  Took a trip to two local supply houses, set up accounts, and bought enough supplies to be dangerous!

I own/operate a business which manufactures a line of aftermarket components for street performance vehicles.  Initially, our company launched within the late-model Ford Mustang segment, but is expanding to other makes/models as we grow.  This new tool will be used in my small business for both marketing use (stickers, banners, etc.) and production functions.  We intend to use the plotter to cut things such as installation templates, allowing a customer to perform DIY tasks with greater ease and precision.

We are complete noobs in this arena, so show your mercy please!  I'm hoping our experience with our company's two CNC mills will lend us a boost up the learning curve.  From the mechanical viewpoint, I think it has already proven helpful.  My mind sees this plotter as a 2.5D "milling" machine.  Glad to see terms like tool offset and compensation cross over, among others.  At least we feel a little "at home" already.

Spent more time building the desk than setting up the plotter.  Cranked it up, cut a few stickers and "wandered" through the software a bit.  So far, so good.

Hopefully, we'll be mostly showing off work and not pleading for help so much!!!  But don't be surprised if....  :)

Alan

Thanks for the welcomes!

Not a bad first day for the little pcut.  Chatting with a neighbor, I picked up a side job that by itself will recoup my expense on the plotter...

...and eight more of them just like it!  ahaha

This little thing will come in handy, no doubt.  Very excited to learn more, and certain I'll have questions.
