Kimon 1 Posted April 7, 2009 In order to work with your plotter your images will need to be converted to vector images. Exporting the files from Photoshop as an ai or eps will allow some files to be opened in Illustrator but it does not convert them. What you can do is take your edited image in Photoshop and save it as an image file bmp, png, or jpg then place it in illustrator and use the live trace feature to convert it top a vector file.Once you have a vector file you may add your text and then send the file (without the original image files) to Signcut for output to your plotter. If you would like to send me one of your original Photoshop files I will see if we can convert it to a quick video tutorial later today or tomorrow. Some key things to remember - although Photoshop can do some things with vectors most files created in photoshop contain raster images and will not work with your plotter or with Signcut. Vector files are made of of lines points and arc while raster are made up of pixels - small squares or circles that define color. Some additional info about vectors and rasters: Vector graphics is the use of geometrical primitives such as points, lines, curves, and shapes or polygon(s), which are all based on mathematical equations, to represent images in computer graphics. Vector graphics formats are complementary to raster graphics, which is the representation of images as an array of pixels, small circles or squares that define color as it is typically used for the representation of photographic images. To output to a plotter your artwork needs to be in a vector format. A quick way to check your graphics is to open them in your design software and then view them without fills in outline mode. If no image shows up then it probably a raster if an outline of your image shows up then it is a vector.
