  1. Well, I'm not sure what was wrong with it. So I retraced it in Illustrator, made sure it was the size I wanted to begin with (I think maybe it was too small for the cutting program to follow the vectors correctly, maybe) then re-saved it and re-imported it into the cutter software.
It's was a one time deal for me personally, so I'm not worried about FCA coming after me on this. Someday, though, I might try to see what it takes to get licensing from Mopar.
Here is how it turned out (on the trunk of my '63 Dart). I painted it a little heavier than I originally was thinking. My first thought was to fog it like it had been there for years, then the fog got heavier as I thought it might not be heavy enough, then it was like oh, well, may as well fill it all in dark.

  2. I have a design that just is not cutting correctly. As you can see, it's a Mopar skull that I made and am wanting to use it for a paint mask.
I'm trying to figure out how to describe it. It as if the design is being squished and cuts are overlapped. I have saved my .ai file as Illustrator 8. I am using a Vinyl Express R Series II cutter and the software is VE LXi Expert. I am not sure what the deal is or how to fix it, I don't think I've has this problem before. Luckily, it's for my own personal use and I'm not doing for someone.

Any advice is appreciated. The overall size is 18x14, and after three tries and wasting the material, I figured I better ask for some help.

  3. The car club I am in, Pentastar Pride, is having their annual car show in July. The guy that owns the trophy shop that had been making their awards retired and closed up shop. So, someone had the idea to do Parking signs. My wife mentioned that I have  plotter, so, I kind of got volunteered. I am doing them in trade for advertising of one of my websites. I had some nice stickers made up that I put on the back that say "This Award Sponsored By (My Website Address)".  A couple of the club members are going to come over and help finish getting the vinyl onto the signs. I found the sign blanks on ebay for a really good price. They are 8"x12".
The car show is a Mopar Car Show, but they decided to not turn away other makes.
There will only be one "Best In Show" and that will go to a Mopar. There will be 20 1st and 2nd Place awards and they will go to Mopars. The black "Award Winner" signs will go to non-Mopars and there will only be one award per category.
The proceeds raised from the car show is going to Alzheimer's research, so I really don't mind donating the cost of materials and about half the labor. That means that the club will have that much more to donate.

  4. Does anyone have a good outlet for sign blanks? I'm looking for "no parking" size either 9x12 or 18x12 in either aluminum or plastic.

This project is still in research mode. One of the car clubs is think about doing signs for their awards this year at their annual car show. If this goes, I'll be doing 40-50 signs depending on how many award categories they come up with. Blue vinyl for first place and red vinyl for second.

  5. What do you all suggest that would be good to use for stencil masking for automotive paint that I can cut on my plotter? I remember seeing something a few years ago, but that was a long time before I even thought about having a vinyl plotter and you had to use a razor blade to cut the stencil instead of a plotter.

It's taken alot of time and I finally have a system now.

I've created and opened my 1st ever website store.

    https://ledlightbases.com/

Still a work in progress but check it out.  I'm super excited.

So, do you have a second website to offer the acrylic engraving services?

  7. Did three of these in trade for some automotive work on my '63 Dart. I had to take his original color art and create a single color image. Two of them are approximately 12 x17 and the third is about 14 x 20. The weeding was kind of a pain for me. I'm not use to having to pull so much empty space vinyl (since most of what I do is just fairly simple stickers I sell on ebay), plus it is white vinyl (I have a tougher time seeing the cuts on white than any other color). I still need to apply the transfer tape (wish me luck with that) and he is gong to put them on the windows of his work van himself.

  8. I need some suggestions on some matte black vinyl for automotive use. I have a few people asking me to cut some decals for their cars, but they want them in a matte black that pretty matches the factory decal stripes on their cars.

  9. So, if the current width between two points is 2" and you need that distance to be 9", you can use that ratio to resize your entire image.
Lets say that the total width of your image is currently 5".
    Here is the math:
    DesiredWidth / CurrentWidth = RatioMultiplier
    RatioMultiplier * CurrentTotalImageWidth = NewImageWidth
    9 / 2 = 4.5
    4.5 * 5 = 22.5

  10. My wife picked up a 2012 Dodge Avenger RT yesterday. Since it is an Avenger, she wanted something Iron Man. So I threw this together for her real quick. It's nothing spectacular, but I wanted to share anyway. She's going to put it in the back window.

I would not buy vinyl from some Ebay China seller...

Wasn't planning on it. Just found those as a quick examples of material. So, you can use vinyl wrap or the tint vinyl for stickers/decals?

  12. Ok... I told you guys that eventually I may be asking some dumb questions... and it's only because I am unable to find some answers online (or I don't know the right question to ask).

So... What is the difference between vinyl that is for wraps (for example this chrome stuff on ebay) and vinyl that you can use to make decals or stickers (like Oracal 651)? Can you cut wrap vinyl to make stickers ? If so, will wrap vinyl last outdoors as long as sticker vinyl?

And then, for those that are feeling adventurous, what about headlight tint vinyl (for example this chameleon stuff on ebay)?
