1. I agree with Dakota. Simple is fine but he needs some style. You really should talk him into a new design all around. Business cards are cheap and the rest will follow. Give him a new image and he will more than likely see the light.

  2. HAPPY TURKEY DAY USC Members!!!

Take a little time away from the hustle and bustle of life to post up what you are thankful for.

Me? I'm thankful for many things in life but today I am extremely thankful for all of the help I have received here on the forums. As most of you know I started from nothing with high hopes and you all have helped me in so many ways and I am truly grateful!!!

Also thankful for my health, family, friends and the good ole USA!

    Happy Turkey Day Everyone :)

One thing I haven't quite figured out yet. How do people center up where they're putting the graphic? I use a wet erase marker, but for wet applications, it obviously doesn't work.

Tape measure?? :) In this case you could use a stabilo pencil and mark the top side of the cutting board then align through the glass.

  4. I'm only part time but it happens to me as well. I have so much I'd like to do for myself but when I have the time for it I hit the creative wall. I can get a phone call with a request and an idea and my wheels start turning almost instantly. The next day I'll have two versions to choose from. Not sure if it's the money or desire to please the client or what but it does seem to come easier when it's for a client.

My wife is probably right when she says it's because I am my own worst critic. I'm sure that goes for most of us.

Nope I'm just extremely intelligent :) ............ the three second Google search gave it away.

    Nice work by the way!

  6. I have been using Graphtec Studio with my MacBook Pro which I do like for its simplicity and the fact that I can cut right from GS but I know I will need more if I want to be successful so I started my 30 day trials this weekend. Yeah I think I'll need much longer than that to get the gist of this software. I thought I was making progress and put out some pretty nice work using GS but now I am totally lost again and feeling greener than ever :)

Time to hit YouTube and research research research. If you guys have time for a little advise I sure would appreciate it. I'm sure I'll be full of questions.

  7. Thanks everyone! I don't want to get into it right now and don't want to invest in even the starter kits. I would like to send my center cap and decal to someone else for the doming.

I have all winter so if anyone is interested in doing it when they have a batch just let me know.

  8. I have always been anti FB and do not have an account but I have always recognized it as a great marketing tool. Now that I am looking into joining for the business side I have some questions for you FB vets.

1- Can you give me a quick run down of how it works from post to final sale?

2- Do you need to like every Joe Shmoe who visits?

3- How do you handle riffraff and negative users?

  9. I went back and forth with this myself and after researching here it seemed most use the dry method. I wanted to lean towards the wet method figuring it would give me more time to position the vinyl and shift it around. In the end I decided to use the dry method. I figured if I couldn't get it right the first time then I would be forced to recut and obviously needed more practice. I have only had to recut once. I believe this method will make me a better installer.

I am a huge fan of wetting the app tape for a minute or two before removing it though. It releases with ease.

  10. xpaperman, your bar sounds nice. I have seen it done on many diy shows and have always wanted to try it myself. I do think it is a bit different than the decal resins but we'll see what Dakota has to say. I am really interested in the process and it is on my list of things to approach down the road but I really need to stay focused on the vinyl side i.e. (I NEED to step up my software to AI and Photoshop to learn more on designing and have better designs, master photo editing to insert my work for ads, learn the ins and outs of file types, and of course there are the business and legal challenges also) I will be approaching my goal date in a few months and I am nowhere near where I want to be.

So much to learn and take in....some nights my head is spinning when I hit the pillow from all of the researching on my own and trying to teach myself. I'm trying not to ask for as much around here because I have not much to offer in return.

But it's all good and will hopefully pay off in the end. I am extremely dedicated to this becoming a lifestyle and not just another fly by hobby.

Well that got way off ;)

  11. Yeah when I searched it Dakota seemed to come up with the most info and examples. Those nice "Nitro" decals he did are pretty much what I am looking for. This is for my boat that won't hit the water til spring so no real hurry. I'll wait and see if he is interested.

I have read that some of the cheaper resins will turn yellow over time. Can't have that on my boat.

  12. I would like to dome a decal on a steering wheel center cap. I briefly looked around and didnt see any really small kits for short runs and I know some of you get into doming so it would probably be much more affordable to pay one of you to throw it in with one of your orders.

It is a white plastic center cap with a 1 1/4" center that is recessed about 1/16". Anyone interested?

  13. One of my favorite features of my new cutter is the material cutoff because I never had a knife handy when I needed it.

That's the damn truth jaybird! Look on the table to the left of my cutter, then the table on the right, leave the cutter to look on my weeding bench only to find the dang knife is in my right back pocket! Thinkin about tying it to the cutter with about 35 inches of slack.
