1. Training? You wont need any training...u got us here on the forum. And let me guess...u bought a Mac.... :(

Yep when something is included in a price I expect the seller to deliver on that or reduce the price. I know the forums are here for me to lean on but hands on is always a plus. Yes I bought a Macbook Pro.

30 htv shirts is no problem! I am in the middle of 2 orders for 30 shirts each! The largest I did was just over 100. I could have subbed that one out I suppose but it kept me busy at the time and kept me in 100 % control.

The way I do those larger orders (30 ish) is this way: I lay my shirts in a stack the way I am going to do them (grouped by size). Then I set up the cutter and start cutting 2 to 4 at a time. Then start weeding them while the next group runs etc etc. When I am done weeding a design it gets laid on the appropriate shirt, and put it in a new pile. I do this until everything is cut and weeded. Then I go to press them all at the same time. This just seems to work best for me versus cutting a few, weeding a few and pressing a few at a time. Also, it is nice when you get to the pressing part as you are on the down hill slide.....

Sounds like a logical way to complete an order. I don't like jumping around from stage to stage on any projects. I like to complete one step and move on. Less stress on my OCD :)

  2. What size do you guys have in your Macs? What is the minimum you would go with for sign design and running a cutter? I know some of you are at 16 GB Mem and 4 Tera Storage but I don't think I need to go that big for the cutter and some minimal casual use.

Probably no different than looking at the back of a window directly lettered with vinyl.

Yep that's pretty much what I was thinking. So why the plexi? Why not just offer to letter the glass? It may be a temporary sign and/or the customer doesn't want to block the view...

  4. Thanks Goose! And thanks for not chopping me down on my last question. I should know better than to ask questions before I hit the all mighty GOOGLE search. I have watched a couple useful YouTube vids since my last post :) It's going to take time but I'll get it.

We better keep this thread on topic for now. I am still interested in opinions on which products and brands to lean towards for my initial purchases. Also if I should expand my list at all, please let me know.

  5. One week from today I will be picking up my new Graphtec CE6000-60 :);) I haven't been this excited in a long time guys!!! Been researching like crazy and I have a pretty good idea of which products to purchase while I am there so I will be ready to get started. I will be focusing on some wall art for my wife as I learn but hope to get into signs, banners, reg #'s, vehicle advertising, and storefront vinyl. Hoping you guys might take some time in the next week to toss some advice my way in regards to start up products and brands. Novice here so go easy. Thanks

    My List:

    Cutter

    Software

    Oracal Vinyl

    App tape

    Squeegees

    Weeding tools

    Ruler/Straight edge

    Cutting mat

    Marking pencils

    Coraplast

    Banners

    .....

THIS is what I am looking forward to. Too many hobbies & too much money spent in the past few years just to have something to keep myself busy. Soon I will be busy busy and hopefully on my way towards some extra $$.

In regards to pricing; I see both sides of the coin. Overcharging could drive business away but cutting yourself short will not only put less in your pocket, it could indeed drive the entire market down. That isn't good for any of us. See it too much on ebay..... Penny sellers :(

Guess it's a fine line but quality products and good service will usually pay off in the end.

  7. Yet another piece of inspiration for me :) That is pretty cool Carwash! Along with the rest of your work this makes me believe a cutter is the right choice for my first machine. I assumed the multi color graphics would be too much for me but the more I surf around the more inspiration I find. This is a great site! Can't wait to get my cutter ;)

I like this. With a different font of course. The firefighters running the hose is a nice touch.

Seems to be quite a few members here producing work for firefighters/departments. I think it's great! Much respect for those who risk their lives to save others!!! I would be honored

  9. Love it! That looks like a nice piece of business. Just how many T's is that?

My father in law has an old school Octopus for manual screen printing which used to make him some good cash. It just collects dust most of the time now. Care to save me the search and share your setup?
