  1. I think it's time for CobraInks to offer a "forum Member" discount for all the business they're getting from here, not much to cut into their profits but enough to make you pull the trigger. I'm on the fence right now, I'm gathering equipment for when I move overseas and open a shop there.

If you have enough money to move and open a shop, you can spend money on equipment that will make you money. You need to spend money to make money, if you're being cheap, you arnt going to succeed.

  2. CL in my area is rather slow and not many screen printing posts up, maybe 1 or 2 a year. I've had my eye out but usually its guys that bought the equip and had no clue how to use it or how to get a client base going so they want to sell it for retail price and make some money for their time holding the press/equip.

  3. Working on a mug for a friend of mine and he asked if I could put an M&M Character on the mug for him but I can not seem to find a black and white image or vector or anything usable without having to redraw the image by hand.

So I ask if anyone has a image of an M&M Character that I can edit or is cut ready, before I give up and trace one by hand.

    :D

  4. Well I've done single color shirts before for a few clients and have had them ask about multi-color and I've had to turn away their business because my "press" is just a single color system used for printing on paper material mainly. I've been looking around and see many options for presses but I think I know what I want, but I just need to find a place that sells quality presses for not too much money. So I am here asking for online retailers that have 4 color, 1 or 2 station presses that are decent.

  5. The vinyl isnt sticking completely and as you pull your app tape off it lifts the vinyl enough to suck in some air. This can be caused by numerous things, dirty surface (oil, dust, grime), app tape too high tac for vinyl. If application is done wet then moisture could still be present under the vinyl or the liquid could be causing the adhesive to degrade and not be tacky enough.

  6. Like I mentioned before in that jacked up reply of mine, automotive clear paint works great. Its strong enough for automotive wear and tear, the heat from the sun + rain (dish washer) and can be found at any big box auto parts store.

  7. A "logo" is something unique that other businesses will not have. Something that will be quickly recognized and associated with the company and associated with services they offer or products they provide. A combination of letters can be used as a logo but a single letter must be special/unique/modified and marketed precisely. For example the M for McDonalds. They started with the words, then moved on to the M with the words under and have now, after being around for so long, switched to the M on its own. When people see a C on its own, they think of Chicago Bears.

The only reason I havent just let this go, is because I get these requests to have logos redesigned at work and they bring me a or two letter in a standard font that could stand for anything because there's nothing defining it or making it stand out.

    /end rant.

  8. I laugh when I see people using those free business card designs. I think I've had 4 people hand me their cards with that exact same design and say that the swirly thing is their logo or trademark or something similar.

  9. I managed to get a copy of cs5 from work, woot. But the signcut plugin doesnt work with illy, actually makes illy crash during start up. So I ask, any word on having a cs5 plugin for signcut so I dont have to have both cs4 and cs5 installed?

I know I can save files as older versions and import, but sometimes files wont open properly and doing it through the plugin seems to work... almost all the time.

  10. Prestonservco,

Agreed. That's just like a guy buying a bunch of tools and then calling himself a mechanic working on high end cars. Just because you have tools, doesn't make you a mechanic, just like having design software doesnt make you a designer.

Congrats on getting clients, but too bad you have cost the rest of us their trust because we might not have a "shop" setup they think that we are all just like the newbiest one around.

  11. You can use the gallon of frog juice, just need to prep it properly for your sprayer and dont try using it in a "Wagner" type sprayer, always go with a HVLP with compressor sprayer, it atomizes it correctly to have proper coverage and therefor a proper seal.

  12. I've been seeing a lot of requests for graphics that can easily be made and I'm wondering if people even try creating/and or looking for these vectors before posting for someone to find it for them or make it for them.

I just read a post where someone was looking for a 7 point star, something that could be created using the star tool in illustrator or similar app.

Also saw a request for a rear window of a car, something that can be acquired with a phone/camera and walking at the most, 100 feet outside.

This is in no way calling out anyone, but am I the only on that thinks that you need to learn some design software before you start offering a service in which you can not produce your own graphics? If you dont have the time to learn some design, hire someone that does and you can do the production end of creating the end product.

I'm all for the mom and pop shops doing their thing, but not when they start asking others to provide them with resources and items in which they profit from and take the credit for.
