  1. I just bought an SC and so far it seems perfect.  There is a learning curve and every error has been operator ignorance.  And the kit on Ebay I bought was awesome and got me started an hour after I bought the cutter.  http://www.ebay.com/itm/34-Vinyl-Cutter-BUNDLE-Sign-Cutting-Plotter-w-Sure-Cuts-A-Lot-Pro-Design-Cut-/281010926495?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item416d8e739f it was Monkey that turned me on to this package.

Also I tried to buy everything in the package from UScutter and couldn't come close to the price they give on ebay, even with the $9.99 shipping.

  2. Thanks Rodger,

Now if I ever get a web site I won't violate anything by putting it in my sig.  If I ever get a sig...

    Cal

This much I can tell you.  While they don't allow them here, if you belong to another board that does, make sure you add to those(Especially if your really active there, your link will show retro on every post you ever made).  Every link on the web that points back to your site increases the SEO ranking of your site and gives you a higher ranking on the search engines.  Which is probably what happened here, someone went crazy or posted a link to someplace really messed up or joined only for that reason.  Unless you're paying someone lots o cash, it's hard to get your site high up on Google if someone were to type "vinyl signs" or some other keyword that would point to your site.

  3. I am, as of right now, a truck driver by trade and aspiring sign maker.  I drove fuel tankers for 5 years.  I can tell you, you should have no issues with a heat gun.   You won't be anywhere near the venting systems and the those tankers are double walled.  Meaning there is an insulating air pocket between the two walls.  Also, see if you can do the removal with the trucks full. I know this sounds crazy, but a tanker is less dangerous full than empty, because it is never really empty, because when delivering fuel we capture our vapors back into the truck and the vapors are the explosive part.  Also gasoline in liquid form does not burn, it's the vapors that burn and you could never heat 13000 gallons of fuel to flash point with a heat gun.  I had my breaks catch fire with a full tank once and the flames burnt through my aluminum fenders and hose tray and up the side of the tank, if the truck had been empty it would have burned through the walls of the tank and exploded, but because it was full, the flames weren't hot enough to heat the fuel inside to its flash point.

Hope this makes you fell better, good luck.

  4. Are you doing this only for the letter K?

Just cut one K in one color, and another in another color, and use an xacto knife to separate the sections.

Yes.  It's only the letter K.  I thought maybe there was a way to do it with registration marks instead of cutting it with a knife, although that would be my next choice.

Are you talking about changing the colors on the vinyl side of this or changing the colors while your using design software?

I want to have it come out in vinyl as a different color.  Maybe this would make more sense if I posted a pic.

This is a photoshop render of what I am looking for.

  5. I just got my cutter today and I've cut a few things and all seems ok.  Now I'm trying to do a window decal for my car but here is what I'm trying to figure out...

If I type the letter "K" and want to make the vertical line of the letter a different color from the rest of the letter how do you do that?  I've been messing with the nodes to try and separate the vertical from the rest to make the "K" two different parts but I'm lost.

    Thanks

  6. I can only assume that those who've been doing this for years have a huge library of vector graphics.  Is it best to buy a set from USCutter or someplace else?  Or just grab what you need one at a time?  How do you stay cutting edge?  Like those stick figures everyone has, there are a million different ones out there, who makes those?  Where did you get yours?  Obviously I have a lot to learn and my cutter should be here early this week and I am snagging freebies as much as possible, and some are just garbage that my recycle bin doesn't even want.

    Thanks in advance

  7. I've been all over these boards and first, I have no idea who or even if there are moderators lurking around here.  And second, I have a question for one if he/she reads this.

There are a lot, and I mean a lot, of really good graphics that are being shared by the members of this forum and I was wondering if there were a way these could all be organized in a database that the members here could access?  It would make life quite a bit easier, but until then, I guess I'll keep snagging individual files here and there.

    Thanks,

    Karl

  8. Woot!!  Ordered my cutter this morning!  I bought the package on ebay.  I also ordered some white oracal 651 vinyl for the job I mentioned previously (Once I figure everything out).  Can anyone tell me if the application tape they give to use with the greenstar will work for the oracal?

BTW!  I want to say "THANKS!" to everyone who helped me in this thread.  Seriously, the people on these boards are among the most helpful I've ever encountered on any forums!!!

  9. ^^^Awesome posts!  Funny thing is I was just out and at a local shop and told the guy there I was getting ready to order a cutter, and he wants me to make car decals for him.  Naturally I told him it'll take me a bit to learn, but his logo is just all simple text and no graphics.  Oh!  I can't wait to do some heat transfers and dye subs.

  10. ^^^I like the catch basket.  How long have you been doing this? And how long have you had your SC?  Any problems?  I tried putting together a starter package comparable to the what they sell bundled and I couldn't get close to their price.  Probable going to go with the 34" off ebay and add on from there.

  11. Well you set yourself up for this next question.  I know I need a:

    Cutter

    Weeding tools

    Cutting mat

    straight edge

    application tools (Which ones)

    vinyl

    application tape

probably wouldn't hurt to get some banners to mess with.

Anything else?  And what do you recommend with in these categories? (There it is!  The BIG question!)  I don't know what's worse...Knowing nothing or knowing I know nothing?
