Website feedback and content

^^^ is that from your site? I saw those, but didn't want to rip it off. I'm going for a elegant with attitude style. I want people to know I can be stylish enough to put my work in their home as a wall decal or business sign, but if you want to offend the public with a car decal, I'm all over that too. I see what you mean about to V though. -
Blade holder isnt coming down enough for blade to touch vinyl

LOL! Took me a bit to figure why my machine wasn't working. Can I wear the star on my forehead? -
The blade is ripping through the vinyl and picking the vinyl up as well

All I can suggest is watch this video, skip past building the stand to where they discuss setting the blade and testing.. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=esdiM6RuLjg -
Blade holder isnt coming down enough for blade to touch vinyl

HA! I did the exact same thing when I got my cutter a couple weeks ago. I bet your blade holder looks like this right now... Grab the blade holder and pull up...I bet it slides right out. This is how it should look.... Hope this helps... -
First, Thank you to everyone who's been so helpful! I've never been part of a more accommodating community! 1. What effects to rear windshield wiper blades have on vinyl? Has anyone notices a huge decrease in the life of the vinyl? 2. Having the "privilege" of living in Michigan, old man winter is on it's way and I have no shop to apply decals, so is there a temperature range for the application of vinyl? If so, can I use a heat gun to warm the surface of the vehicle? Thanks again!
-
^^^ Brings me back to my original question, modified. What is the minimum temperature a surface could be and still have effective adhesion?
-
So, I'm starting to get some auto sign and decal business. And everyone wants me to install, which I don't have a problem with, but than the question arises. What to charge? My reasoning is this. If the customer installs and messes it up, he comes back to me and I charge him again for another sign. If I mess it up, I cut another and eat the loss. So for an easy formula, I was thinking of charging half the price the sign for install so per everyone's formula (L+W/2). Signs I just did 12" x 17" would equal to $14.50 and I would charge an additional $7.25 per sign to install. My reasoning for this is if I charge too much for install they can take the chance of messing it up and buying more signs a couple times over before they reach my install fees and will play those odds and put me out extra money. Am I even close in my reasoning?

^^^^ Haaaaa! But I meant the actual outside temp, not the window or heat gun temp.

Looking for help pricing a job for family

Love thy neighbor, @#$% thy family! -
Thanks. Do you know of the temp I should start to be careful at? Also if I'm putting this on a door or tailgate, does temp matter?
-
^^^ Heat gun on glass? Or just let the car run with heat blasting for a while?

Oh, the joy of dealing with customers. As long as they pay...

What technique is everyone using to keep their vinyl aligned properly? I line my vinyl up with the mark on the back and the corresponding mark in the front and then lock it down. But, it still off tracks more than I would like to see. I'm sure there is a better way.
-
Thanks! All good suggestions. I'll give them all a try and see what works best for me.
-
Ok, it seems I'm not unreasonable to charge 50% for an install.
-
I was wondering what everyone is marking up their supplies to. I know how a normal decal is priced, but now add that to a banner or a magnet or lawn sign.... If a s18 x 12 sign costs you $1 what percent do you mark it up? Thanks
-
Never mind. Found it at Brands of the World. I couldn't find a way to delete the original post.

I need the font for "Racing Gasoline" text. I'm re-making decals for a local gas station. I did an image trace, and everything but the font turned out fine.
-
Great! Thanks for the advice.
-
Ok. Didn't know you could do that, but it makes sense. Does the app tape stick to itself good enough?
-
Ok how do you get the E there? Meaning, lets say it's all weeded and on the backing, same with the E, how do you get it all on one piece of application tape? Because it's going on a car door and I don't want to risk a scratch trying to remove the registration marks if I layer it on the door.

Fortunately my sister is an accountant and can set it all up for me, for just the $25 filing fee. -

Ok so I received my cutter 7 days ago and started cutting miscellaneous things for myself and family. One thing I cut was a window decal for my sister which is actually for my nephew, because he's big into theater and she showed some people at the theater, and now I'm putting together a fund raiser for them and cutting probably a couple hundred decals. And my wife is booking me for co-workers, and I ran into a guy who liked the stuff I have on my car and now I'll be cutting for him this weekend. I can't believe how this is exploding in a couple days. It's a bit scary and exciting! I'm sure I will be asking a ton of questions after I get things sorted, so all you experienced people, please keep an eye open. Thanks -

I will probably use a personal account to start, but like the idea of starting to build credit in the business name.
