I see you are concerned with the temperature and not the time of day. LOL :)It's 5 o'clock somewhere.

    My first sandblasting experiment

Yup. Did it with one of these. http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/ctaf/displayitem.taf?Itemnumber=99636 I was covered with dust standing in my driveway while it was about 15 degrees out. At least with a blasting cabinet, I can be in the garage where it will be about 20 degrees. Actually between coffee mugs my wife wants for X-mas gifts and orders I have about 30 glasses to do this weekend. Heck, I just went to the dentist this morning and the receptionist ordered 5 coffee mugs.. and the hygenist gave me two of her dental pics to help with weeding the vinyl.

  4. Has anyone tried to sandblast stainless steel coffee mugs? I'm thinking that I could mask off the design and and blast the annodozed layer (aluminum) or create the design in a stainless steel travel mug. Does anybody have a source for those? Thanks

    Sandblasting stainless steel

That Unicorn is nice. A laser etcher isn't quite in the budget....yet.

    Sandblasting stainless steel

Thanks. I'll give them a try. I also have a WallyMart nearby that probably has something cheap to try it on.

    Sandblasting stainless steel

A frosted look would be fine for the stainless. That would be all that I would expect. I'm thinking that if I blasted some of the colored aluminum flasks/bottles, that it would blast off the color pretty easily and give me a sharp image.

    busy etching today!!

That looks like the $1 beer mug from the dollar tree. I've been making $5 to $7 on each glass I've been doing. I've mostly been doing them for friends, so I'm not making a whole bunch. I need to figure out what to charge for design time. It's easy when they have the design, but when they ask me to come up with one, that's hard for me to charge for.

    My first sandblasting experiment

Not a problem. It's fun but messy. Hopefully the cabinet will make a huge difference in keeping everything clean. I might have to pick one up this weekend. I have 11 coffee mugs and 4 beer glasses to do. If I do coffee mugs for my coworkers (real job) that would be another 7.I have a few other folks interested in beer glasses, and my brother wants me to do some mirrors for awards for his boy scout troop. I also have the chance at doing 170 wine glasses for a charity event, but that won't be until spring.

    Small desktop type printers

The HP vinyl says its water resistant. Is it waterproof with the 3m laminate on top?I was playing with some of the papilio waterproof vinyl yesterday. Ended up making some nice stickers for a bike shop. Sprayed it with their UV protectant. Hopefully it will last quite a while.

    New Sandblasting Setup

Looking forward to seeing the results. I've been doing the chemical etch, but the sandblasting is looking to be very interesting.
  15. Thanks. I have a couple bike shops that want some printed decals.

    BEER MUGS

I've been etching some pint glasses also. A good source for glasses are restaraunt supply houses. Crate and Barrel also have their $4 glasses which are really nice.
  18. What would you charge? I've been doing small decals, but was offered to do some signage for a friend over the weekend. One color Oracal 651 Window decals for a storefront. Simple graphics 3 decals, 14"x30" Installed. Thanks.

    busy etching today!!

Very nice. What are you using to etch with?
  20. The windows were heavily tinted, to the point where the store looks closed in the middle of the day. The white actually stood out quite well. Guess I could have added a red middle to the letters or something, but since it was my first window job, I thought it turned out quite well.
  21. Thanks, That was more than I was thinking.

    Free 3M Sample rolls

I received my sample rolls a month or so ago. On Friday I received a followup call from a nice lady asking if I had any questions. We talked for a while and I asked a few questions. She's going to send me a catalog and said to give her a call if I wanted any more samples.I'm looking forward to the catalog.

    Vinyl For Paint Masking ?

What trahsfer tape is recommended for vinyl like the MACTAC that is used for very curvy applications?I'm in need of a mask to do some chemical etching on some curved beer glasses. I'm using Oracal 651, but it doesn't conform well. I'm thinking that even if I get the MACTAC vinyl, I will need some transfter tape that handles the curves also.

    Transfer tape for car decals.

I'm making car window decals. I cut them out and send them to the customer to install. The transfer tape I'm using peels up in the corners (forgot which brand). Not the best impression for the customer. What transfer tape are you using that doesn't curl up in the corners? (I'm using Oracal 651 viny) Thanks,

I think the link is on page 5 of this thread.I got the reflective vinyl also. Just cut off a foot and fed it in the machine 'sideways'. Worked just fine. The other roll was window perf. Not exactly sure what I"m going to do with that. I need a printer.....oh yea and money to buy one.
