8 ft banner price, how much?
Booper replied to Booper's topic in Business Practices, Sales and Pricing, etc.
Well there was obviously no design work on this one, he wanted that gay retro Tim Hortons font and centered layout, so it was about 10 minutes to do the computer work, and like I said he's a buddy. I did two 16 footers for another guy and hit him for 450 each but only cuz we went back and forth for a week on the design. There are a TONNE of shops up here and it seems like everyone is trying to undercut each other, im only doing this for beer money so im good but its still alot of time that I could (should) be spending with my 11 month old so I feel like I should charge accordingly. -

Yeah I was wondering, 80 bucks a pop seemed kinda cheap to me, I was leaning towards 125 to 150 each, and thats cuz he's a BUDDY! LOL! -

What vinyl for temporary automotive graphics..?
Booper replied to Truckntran's topic in General discussion
I did up my truck for a santa claus parade using Oracal 631, loaned it to a buddy of mine to drive for the parade, and before I could get back the next day to do the removal he had ripped it all off and not a scratch on the truck, so I'd say yer pretty safe with it. And it was cold outside, had been parked outdoors all night. -
Just moved into my new house, everythings in boxes and rubbermaid containers, but this thread has me itching to get set up again in the new place!!! I'll post pics when im up and running!

Maybe its just the angle of the picture but it looks to me like the curve for the lettering on the top is not centered and the spacing seems weird...... apart from that its some good work right there!!

Any advice just got laid off gona try full time signs?
Booper replied to paz21paz's topic in Business Practices, Sales and Pricing, etc.
I read somewhere or maybe it was Youtube, but there was some guy back in the late 80's early 90's that had one of those spacecab pickup trucks with the passenger seat facing rear in it, he had a computer and a cutter on board, all his stuff was in the back of the truck under a cover, and he would go around and find places that were opening up or had no signage, walk in and introduce himself, and offer to make them a sample sign free of charge, go back out to the truck and cut a small version of it, apply it to a coroplast and walk back in & 90% of the time he got an order right away. Im not saying DO THAT but as far as marketing goes, thats a pretty slick way of getting the message across. Cards & flyers are great but once you leave they forget where they put it, etc etc..... -
ROFLMAO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Johns darkmatch big squeegee or the original one will eliminate the need for an app tape roller, I blew my brains out having a legitimate Big Squeegee shipped up here to Canada and after brokering and shipping was about 100 bucks, but it was worth it at the time because it makes applying app tape so easy its not even funny. There are videos on Youtube on how to use it to apply app tape, but basically you just push the roll across the vinyl with the leading edge of the BS at about a 20 degree angle with your hand in the middle of the squeegee, ( NOT THE SIDES) with id say medium to slightly more than medium pressure and it lays it out completely wrinkle and bubble free. Hardest part for me is lining up the app tape to lay down straight onto the vinyl, Im usually floating left or right a quarter inch per foot or so.

Very cool!!!!!!!!! Good work Banner John!!!

Dooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooode......... I never even noticed that till you mentioned it...

ahhhh ok. Good tip. I cut all the white lettering as one panel so that may be a bit of a @#$^ to do but I did that to maintain vertical spacing. My plan is to position the lettering where I want it, hinge it down the middle, pull up the left side as you suggested, peel off the backing paper and cut it off, spray the banner surface with app fluid & the adhesive side of the decal, lay it down and squeegie the everloving @#$^ out of it and repeat on the right side. Does this sound like a good approach to it??

Im attempting my very first banners tomorrow, doing all the cutting tonight and the install tomorrow. Im starting out small for my very first banners, 3 feet by SIXTEEN FEET!!!! LOL! Im gonna have to do these on the floor in the garage as I dont have a table that long, and wall to wall carpeting everywhere else, im looking for any pointers, tips, FYI's and do's and don'ts from everyone here (especially Banner John) that has experience in doing banners this length and having them come out looking pro, and what to charge for them (owner is a good personal friend of mine). I plan on doing them wet (Rapid Tac) to give me a little extra insurance not screwing them up. Here's the design, there's 2 of them going on the outside of the building. Many thanks for the help folks!!!
