  1. A friend of mine needs my truck to tow a santa claus parade float, and im covering it in bank logos for her, there are 4 triple layer decals 2ft by 2 ft, about 24 feet of 8" body striping, with lettering on top of it, a few small 8x12 logos, 2- 6" x 36" Letterings and a windshield banner. All in all about 20 yards of 24" vinyl plus my labor. The only reason I agreed to all of this is for the experience and exposure, im going to put a www on my rear window to promote myself during the parade, and like I said she's a good friend of mine. What would be a fair price for all of this in your opinions?

    whats up with oracal

Yeah definitely get the replacement roll brother, I have some King Blue Oracal 631 here right now to do a parade float and it didn't do ANY of those things you were talking about, its gotta be the roll.

Im stumped brother, Ive done layered decals that have sat around for months and never had that happen in Oracal. There is always a chance that it is a bad roll of vinyl but in the world of vinyl makers Oracal is one of the biggest and the best. The fact that you PREFER BGS makes me think its more operator error than vinyl issue, and that is in no way meant as a dig at you, but I would wager that if you took a pole of all the veteran cutters on this site they would pick Oracal over BGS 1000 to 1. Im hoping there is a really easy quick answer to your issue, but it may be one of those situations were someone with more experience needs to come and watch you work to point out the problem. But like I said its totally possible the very first roll of Oracal you have ever used is bad, anythings possible.

Anybody sell Oracal by the foot?

HOLY CARP what a racket selling it by the foot!! 2.50 USD per foot plus shipping plus 20 cents per foot extra for shipping!?!?! So 10 yards of mixed 651 would cost, 10 yards 3 feet per yard is 30 feet, 30 times 2.50 is 75.00 Shipping is 1.99 plus .20 cents for each additional foot so thats 1.99 plus .20 times 29 feet is 7.79 So the total price on 10 yards is 82.79 which works out to 8.28 cents a yard end price, and my local Oracal dealer sells it too me at 2.30 CANADIAN per yard, any color any length. Im in the wrong business.

what kind of grey in this picture?

Almost impossible to tell with a photo, as every monitor will display it differently, but from where im sitting looking at the Oracal 651 swatches i'd say it looks alot like 076 telegrey.

    Need Oracal 631 help

Yeah thats a good point, but 4 of them are for the 2010 Olympic Games in Vancouver as they are a major sponsor so they would be useless next year. Great input guys, much appreciated!

What do you figure $$ wise for magnets? there's gonna be a total of 6 decals 24" by 18".

You gotta do it dry brother, go on Youtube and type in 4 layer decal and watch the video of how the guy does it, he peels the backing paper off and repositions it so that the registration marks are exposed and lines it up with the lower layer, then peels the backing off and repeats the same process for each layer. Notice he is using Oracal 651. In my opinion you will be happier with the Oracal than the BGS long term.
  11. I just grabbed it too Fader, thanks a million brother.

Received my 3rd cutter and still problems

You ARE being an ass, and I have no doubt they will ban you again, much less give you ANY sort of love as far as resolving your issue after what you have done. Being a forum toughguy is one thing but SLANDERING a company outright will only get you sued brother. Im a newbie to cutting but im a veteran to forums and business and im telling you straight, that was a chickenshYYt thing to do. You need to take that site down, APOLOGIZE to whoever you were dealing with and be a gentleman about all of this and resolve it the way normal people do. I know its not an IMMEDIATE answer but its the way normal business people conduct business and its even more important when you are trying to sway the common mans opinion in your favor. Lets put this into perspective, you bought an entry level machine for a stupidly low price. No judge on earth is gonna award you damages based on a web based forum for what you CLAIM to have lost. The machine works for MOST, unfortunately not for others, and USCUTTER is trying their best to help people within the confines of what the machine was priced at. ME PERSONALLY I would have told you to pound salt along time ago, and thats why im not in the retail business. You are starting a WAR against a small company who is doing its best to work thru your issue and give you technical support. Are you THIS beligerent to Microsoft and all they have done to us with Windows 98, XP, FREAKIN VISTA, and God help us all on Windows 7? LOL! Slow down brother, have a few beers and MAYBE you might come to a resolution. I can only say that the way you are CURRENTLY going about it in my personal opinion is NOT the way to do it.

    Forum Re-organization

You can modify the Recents post and there is a latest post mod that can be added but showing all that on the main page even at the bottom would extend the page out way beyond normal views, especially on busy days. I would just personally use the Topics unread since last visit option that way you get the latest and newest posts that you haven't seen. Yeah thats what I do right now, but if I navigate away from the site for a few seconds to follow a link or look something up related to the topic im reading, when I get back all the unread posts are now listed as read and dont show up on the "Topics Unread" page anymore. Then im left trying to guess what forum that thread was posted in and have to go searching for it. Im on a few other boards and 99% of them have an "Active Topics" page that list all the current posts from all forums in one spot that as they become old get pushed down the line just like any subforum on here.
  15. Why didn't you overlay the black onto the orange? LOL!
  16. Looks great! Im still a little confused as to how inlaying it makes it more vibrant looking than just overlaying the black over the orange... seems like alot of extra work?

    Forum Re-organization

More of a question than a suggestion, but is there a way to see all of the posts from all categories in chronological order regardless of whether or not its unread or not? Sort of like the "most recent posts" at the bottom of the home page but with ALL posts instead of just the last 5???

    Weeding Small Letters

Price is relative, I needed a 60 degree blade in a hurry to cut some reflective and my vinyl supplier charged me 50 BUCKS for a legit Roland blade!!! (Yes, just ONE)

You wouldn't happen to own a MH series cutter would you???

    Reflective Vinyl: Squad Car

Im not gonna lie, as far as police cars go those are pretty plain Jane. But maybe that department isn't as well funded as most. Great job on the decals, I could never do what you did, just saying not the coolest design or layout ive seen.

App tape and backing not sticking

My tips curl too but when I trim them down with the razor knife and metal ruler they stick. I seen a trick on here to cut a 45 on all the tips of the backing and fold the app tape over them, and remember to ship them decal side out so they dont tunnel when you roll them up.
  22. Are you currently making more than 1200 a month NET profit on your decals? In order for you to cover your current 40,000 dollar salary plus 1200 a month in rent you will need to make aproximately 1100 dollars a week NET (after expenses and your taxes are paid). That amount would keep you in the exact same financial position you are now in. I would say unless you are hitting somewhere near half of that figure right now and have more orders than you can currently fill part time, you might want to start a little smaller, like a flea market booth on weekends or trade shows. Im not in the sign business but I do run a small family company and sometimes great hobbies make crappy businesses.

    Anyone heard of SMF Vinyl??

Great post, alot of good advice there. I went to the supply place yesterday and picked up their color swatch book. Its a tiny little foldout with nothing but their name on the front on a plain white cardstock. Not very impressive considering the industry they are selling too. I didnt ask the price of it per yard but im going to order some next week to do some simple indoor signboards for a buddy of mine and see what this stuff is like then. Only reason I went there in the firstplace is the Oracal place wont sell anything less than a full 50yd roll, and the FDC supplier never has any colors in stock!!!
