  1. the application tape holder is shite you dont want to copy that lol, the vinyl rack was 4 x 2 timber with 25mm holes drilled every 8cm, and the jigsawed out at an angle then i have used poles and broom handles for the roll holders, if i were to do it again i would leave the spaces atleast 10cm instead of 8cm or even 12-14cm as the rolls that are on at the moment are only 5mtr, if you have bigger rolls every other slot would be redundant.  I would also use 6 inch wood rather than 4.  If you have a router you could make it so much nicer and just route in the slot with a depth of about an inch, but i wasn't worried about it looking pretty lol

The application tape is simpley 4 x 2 screwed to a board with two holes drilled through and a copper pipe through the holes, with some walking stick feet on the end of the copper pipe to stop it slipping out, problem is the roll doesn't roll very freely or smoothly its very jerky, i am going to try it again my putting a 2nd bar in this time and some inserts of plastic pipe in the holes of the wood and so it spins more freely, i'll get some close up pics this weekend though, but it was a hashed job which took all of 5 mins lol

  2. Anytime you turn an object, wheather it be a font, shape, or image, it then becomes node editable(is that a word?!?!). From there you can then sleect the letter and a box, and "split" the letter to change the colors down the middle, etc.

I don't have a good enough working knowledge of Inkscape on how to explain/teach a tutorial word for word, since I mainly do most of my editing in Flexi... but I can manage to get by after some trial and errors, lol.

Good luck, and don't give up! Keep trying and you'll get it down in no time.

thats ok now i know its possible and you have given me some guidance i will have a play, thanks again

  3. Is this what you were going after?

yeah thats exactly what i was trying to achieve, i dont actually need it for anything im just trying to learn what can/can't be done really, i shall give this a go again later today following your tips and see what i can come up with

    Thanks again

  5. Pitkin I love the rack setup!! That is a very good idea. I've been checking out the different ways everyone has theirs and I like that one a lot!!!

You could unroll what you need, cut it off and be done with it!!

yeah i am well happy with that, it took about 2 hours to make, i still need more rods but it was well worth the effort as i had them stood in boxes before taking space, now they are out the way its full now as well 17 rolls lol

  6. hi all, i have been having a similar problem trying to install a piece of vinyl 40cm x 80cm well 3 of them actually, but it just went wrong right from the start, i was using med tack clear app tape, and i just could not get it cleanly on the vinyl it was just sticking to everything before i could get it near, and the static from it was unreal, i only passed it over the vinyl with a space of about 6 inches and the static sucked the vinyl  straight to app tape, i know i need to get some paper app tape but any tips on using the clear as in the near future i need to do some large 2-3 colour vinyls and i really need to use the clear so i can see the reg marks

    cheers

your a genius, why didn't i think of that, that makes so much sense, now you have said it seems to be too obvious lol, i will give both of those tips a go tomorrow as i attempted this 4 times today and have thrown away about 5 mtrs of white vinyl (Cheap stuff thankfully) mostly in temper lol

When I use the clear app tape,   I actually, lay the clear tape on the table with the adhesive side up, put a little weight on a corner,  like scissors, metal tape measure to keep it down,  then start at one end of the decal, and kind of apply it to the clear tape..    not just lay the whole decal on it,  but kind of roll slowly the decal from one end to the other, smoothing it out as I go.

also if you want to do layering different colors.  you can still use paper tape,,  do your main decal in paper, and apply pieces of clear tape on the registration marks to see them..

  7. Pitkin,

One thing you might try to do since the static is attracting your vinyl off the table when you move it over is take a piece of scotch tape and tape down the edeges of your backing paperl.

Another trick that might help with the static is a anti-static wrist band that computer repair people use. it will ground you and might help pull the static from the tape and you so that it will not causes as many problems.

i did tape the vinyl down but didn't hlp too much, i shall try the antistatic band though nice idea

  9. for such an easy design like that i would have just recreated each geometric shape in each color. then if you can identify the font, youy just recreate it and place it in a curve.

    bb

i did try to do it that way using SB and it was a nightmare, i think its more to do with my lack of knowledge of SB more than anything else
