  1. i dont have a real serial port as im using a laptop, but i idid get flexi to cut some squares and cicles when i was messing about it just wouldn't cut lettering that was about 60mm x 1000mm.

I will check the settings and see if it makes a difference

  2. well i am having the same problem i spent nearly 4 hours trying to get flexi to work (what a waste of time lol) it would start to cut, then it would just pretend it was cutting, make some groaning noises and movve around a bit when it felt like it then nothing

im using flexi 8.5v1 on usb to serial adapter - serial port on cutter (refine MH721), i downloaded the uscutters drivers and selected the right one.  I even changed the packet size to 1000kb like someone had suggested and still nothing.  Am i missing something obvious ?? BTW i dont have a great knowledge of this program what so ever i have been using SB but someone suggested i try out Flexi, any help would be appreciated

  3. i only noticed this myself today and mine does have a sticker on the front of open rectangle no lettering so unless you knew what it was for you wouldn't have a clue.  I had wondered why when i have the pinch roller in the middle exactly in the middle it bunches the vinyl up, had i have just looked underneath where it goes i would see that its making contact with a plastic block rather than a roller DUH!!! but atleast i learnt something new today

  4. it happens in nearly the same place on the R in upholstery but sometimes it does half the R other times not, i did check for any open path in the lettering and all looks fine.  The other thing which has made me think its more a pc/software issue rather than an open path is the fact that it cuts fine when doing just one copy, it only goes mad when i ask it to cut 2 copies, the pics in post 1 are the same lettering diff designs the first is all on one line the 2nd is split into lines, as i thought the length was an issue so split it down.  I have just got flexi pro running and from PM it says my memory available is 300mb, out of the 1gb overall, do you think that is suffucent??

Tomorrow i will try it in a different USB port and see if that makes any difference.

And let me tell you the hammer was heading its way, this job im doing (thankfully its just practice for family) i thought would take me a day to cut, weed and apply app tape (there is more than just whats in the pic) and half day to apply it all, so far im at 4 days and have only done a fifth of what i had intended, lol

  5. i did think maybe a memory issue but it cut the bottom layer (2 copies fine) but the top layer again 2 copies it point blank refuses to do it without cutting through the whole lot.

I am using a usb to serial adapter, mainly because my laptop has no serial point and when using the USB it just will not work at all.

With regards to memory do you think its the computers RAM or the cutters memory that is the problem??  Obviously the comps memory can be upgraded but can the cutters??

  6. same principal i guess, as long as it works it doesnt really matter how you get there, all i need to figure out now is how to get the vinyl to feed nice and straight over lengths of over a metre, it runs staright for about 90cm then starts to drift, so when i do layers it starts fine, but by the end of the length the layer has got so far out of line its a joke, its usually only around 10mm but it looks awful

  7. may not be correct but i make my layered design, i then click open and select my reg mark and open it as a template, i can then copy that and place it where ever i want on the screen, now no matter what colour i select to cut my reg marks will always appear.

i have attached the SBD reg mark if anyone wants it

  8. hi all, i have searched through the forums but cant find a definitive answer so thought i would make a post before destroying my MH721 with a very large Hammer lol.  I have the cutter on a congrete floor on a wooden plinth and i have grounded it using a piece of wire from the cutter chassis to the stand, plugged into a surge protector (UK so plugs are grounded) and using the USB to Serial.  No problems at all until now, but never cut anything this large before.

The problem i am having is that im trying to do one long piece of lettering "SPECIALIST CARPET & UPHOLSTERY CLEANING", this was the first attempt on paper with a sharpie

    SP_A0088.jpg

I solved that problem (or atleast i thought) i didn't have the settings correct for the length of vinyl being used in SBE it was set at 1400mm long and the design was 1900mm long, changed that and it cut fine.

The second problem then came about the cutter not running the vinyl straight through the cutter making layering impossible, so i split the design down to two lines, cut the lower layer perfectly, went on to cut the top layer and it started to do this again, random slashing like a cheap horror movie.

I have restarted the laptop and SBE checked connections re did the ground wire all to no joy, does anyone have any advice or a solution please

Thanks for reading my rant lol

  9. thanks for the advice, i am in the UK so if there are any UK members who could offer a price for the job i would be grateful.

I'm sure some of you guys across the pond could give me a good price but i expect the postage cost to outweight the benefits, but if you have a cost inc shipping to UK then please send me a price i may still be interested

    Many thanks

  11. I think they key phrase is "that's why I came here'. You got the job, the other guy didn't. Who was smarter?

I guess the other guy needs to charge more to pay for the pens with his name on them.

Don't worry about what you didn't make..be happy about what you DID make.

i couldnt agree more, you need to not worry about what others charge and only worry about what you charge, making sure you cover your costs and your time and set your price at a level you are happy to charge.

Getting the price right is a tricky thing to do, if you charge too cheap people think your cheap and the quality will ve shite you will only ever get the price shoppers, charge top whack and people expect the best, but only people with deep pockets will pay top whack so you have to find that happy medium which is hard

  12. Well, I couldn't wait for your pics, darn it...Mine is almost dry and ready to hang on the wall. I did paint it to match the wall since it's in a bedroom.

Thought I'd go all out. Couldn't figure how to take the router off the table, so just skipped that step and hand sanded a little. I'll post a pic if it stays on the wall. Thanks again for the idea! Sandy

    excellent get some pics up

  13. ok as promised some close ups, not great as my phones camera isnt the best,

As you can see from the side of the vinyl holder i simply drilled a 25mm hole then drew 2 lines at 55' DEG and jigsawed it out so the hole was made into a slot, all i then used was some old broom handles, dowels and pipes for the roll holder, pretty simple really, then just screwed to the board at the back.  You could make it freestanding if you had a big plate/sheet of wood at the bottom
