thinking of upgrading to the MH871

Thanks so much for all your help...so much appreciated. Actually we will be taking up the carpet and refinishing the hardwood floor we covered up so that should help with the static electricity. I cricut is sortof loud so I am used to that and not really fast. I am just having fun cutting vinyl right now...mostly doing wine glasses and ceramic tiles. One craft show a year just so my 12 year old daughter has some where to put the jewelry she makes so I stick a few things there too. I did a few other cuts for family but haven't made much $$ so didn't want to go big right now. Glad I can use the carrier sheets cause I get lucky and found a sign shop that gives me scraps when i need them so i just buy my main colors and he gives me other shades that I don't use much. I don't see a serial port in the back of the computer...just usbs so I will get the cable for serial to usb. Again thanks so much for your responses, it is so much appreciated!!! Mary

thinking of upgrading to the MH871

Thank you...do you have this cutter?? do you like it??
  4. thinking of upgrading to the MH 871 bundle on ebay. I am using a cricut now and do all my work in make the cut...love that program. Wondered if you can use a mat and put the vinyl on with this cutter like you do the cricut. I have lots of small pieces of vinyl. Also working on redoing my office which this cutter will be in and wondered how tall the cutter sits when on the stand. I want to be sure i keep the countertop high enough so I can slide this under when not in use. Also does this cut alot better than the cricut? I see it is best to run through a serial port, Is that just a special cord to use rather and the usb, do most computers have the port for that? Thanks for any input. Mary
  5. Can you use the mh365 to cut paper and if so do you need extra products to do it and do the blades dull quickly. I do candy bar wrappers---designs over original candy bar wrappers--and want to add some pizazz to them but have cutouts. also want to do some scrapbooking and cut my own designs to put in the scrapbook...but of course want to do some vinyl cutting like to put words or designs on the kids walls...thanks for any help!!! How to get started????

I can't find a picture right now but let me see if I can explain it better. i wrap hershey candy bars and first i would wrap the bar with foil then i would wrap a designed wrapper over it and say I would have stas in my design... i would want them cut out so i could see the foil through the stars....... I am assuming any of the cutters from uscutter would do that Next I would love to do designs on tshirts with say my sons name on the back but did not want to have to cut each letter out separately and then use my iron to iron it on. Can I just us an inkjet printer with normal ink to do them. Also the wall words and tiles do you use vinyl to make them and do you have to use a special ink in your printer for them too. Sorry hope I am not too confuising Mary

    PlexiGlass

Here is a site they cut for you. You get the nearest size and then they cut it. If you google it you will find lots...we were looking to get some for a window our son broke with a baseball and found lots of sites that will cut to your size...here is one of them http://www.eplastics.com/Plastic/Plexiglass_Acrylic_Sheet;jsessionid=0a0106521f434b04c957a2e34852aa27e11eea2b07ce.e3eSc34RbhyRe34Pa38Ta3aKc350 mary
  9. Hello All i am new to all of this and wondered if anyone could help me in what I would need for what I want to do. I design candy bar wrappers for special occasions and wanted something that would cut out designs on the wrappers(say hearts or stars) so foil will show through. Also my kids like it when i make them t-shirts...just from the inkjet printer or my laser and print on transfer paper and then iron them on,( can't afford a press at this time!!) but i wanted to do dark t-shirts and to have something to cutout the designs so that the white does not show through....clear as mud? I am not the best with cutting with scissors on most of the designs where there is alot of cutting. My son loves it when i put his name on the back of his baseball shirts, since our league doesn't do that. Just wondered what kind of cutter would be good for this. Would love to someday be about to make the wall letters and to do tiles too...but didn't know if that took a special printer and ink to print on. Just wondered what all I needed to start this as mostly just a hobby. Thanks for any input!!!! mary
