  1. Does anyone know of another material that would be durable enough to make a map like this if banner material doesn't work? I was thinking of using a sharpie also.
  2. Thanks for the reply! What about drawing it on banner material? Do you think that is a good material to make it on? I see you live in Ohio. Where abouts? I live in Akron.
  3. I was considering buying a US Cutter Raindrop for my hobbies. But after a few conversations here, I have been persuaded to look at larger models. One reason I was thinking of going with a larger unit, like a 50" Refine was to make grid terrain maps for miniature wargames. My friends and I like to make up very large battles. The games are played on a "map" that is blocked out in a one inch by one inch grid. I was wondering if you could use the plotter feature and print out a 1 X 1 grid on banner material (or something like it) in a 4' by 8' size. The maps look like this... The plotter would only be used to print the 1 X 1 grid, not the underlying images. A game board the size of a full sheet of plywood would be amazing!! Do you think that this is possible? If not, do you have any suggestions? Thanks so much for your time and help! - Marc

Hobby Cutting: Craft Robo 2 vs. Raindrop

Ok, I get it. I wasn't quite getting their website. I understand now. Do you know anything about the 24" PCUT? It is $379.99 without the stand. Get anything worth while for the extra $20.

Do you know anything about the USCutter MH Vinyl Cutter on their website? It is $269.99 and cuts almost 25". It says that they can't guarantee compatibility with any other software except Flexi. Here is the link: http://www.uscutter.com/USCutter-MH-Vinyl-Cutter-_p_25.html#

Hobby Cutting: Craft Robo 2 vs. Raindrop

Thanks for the help! Since you have suggested getting a larger vinyl cutter, what kind of things have you been able to do with the larger model that you wouldn't be able to do with a smaller model? It could be that I am "pigeon holing" myself by not thinking of some other projects that I could do. Also, I am into making paper models. Basically you take a 3D model of an object and load into software called Pepakura, and it unfolds the model for you so that you can print and cut out the model and assemble it into a real life model. It's pretty kewl. I think I can get the craft style cutters to do the cutting of the paper out for me. Will a standard vinyl cutter be able to do this? Finally, what are some of the things that these craft style cutters can do that a standard vinyl cutter can't? Thanks again!! =)
  7. Hello, First, I would like to thank everyone in advance for taking the time to answer my questions! I am interested in buying a vinyl cutter for general hobby use. Mostly for making painting masks for painting RC car and truck bodies. Also for making custom stickers for the bodies. I don't have a lot of money to spend and the Craft Robo 2 (CR2) and the Raindrop (RD) are both in my price range. The USCutter website has the RD as "recommended". There is not much of a description of the advantages of the RD over the CR2. Could someone please tell me the advantages of the RD over the CR2? Are their any disadvantages? I was also wondering if both of these machines will be adequate for my purposes. For instance, are these machines able to cut something with this detail? Are these machines capable of creating stickers like these? Also the RD info page says: "It includes SignBlazer software and it includes a laser alignment system that will offer future contour cutting ability (with software upgrade)." Does this mean that the RD has a laser built in that can do contour tracing and in order to utilize it you must upgrade the SignBlazer software? Okay, I guess these are enough questions to get me going! Once again thanks for your time and help, it is greatly appreciated!! - Marc
