  1. I would think about how long it is going to take to sand the old sign vs. just buying a new sheet. Can't really help on the price tho. I quoted a 4x6 4 color @ 425 installed and had one guy beat my price by 100.00.

    6mm rigid PVC?

I ordered mine from N Glantz, I am close enough that they deliever to me once a week for 3 bucks. Anyway I am sure what you are looking for is also called Expanded Rigid PVC. They do sell the 4x8 sheets, and if I remember right it was about 60 bucks.
  3. I know there are some places that sell by the yard if you don't think oyu will need a lot.
  4. I have been asked quote a 4x6 sign. It will be mounted to the front of a brick building. It is 1 sided with a 4 color design but would be very easy to do in vinyl. They do want me to install it and they are about a 30 min drive one way. I was thinking about using either alumalite or dibond, both cost about 100 bucks. Would 350-375 range be right for a sign like this. I normally just do vinyl so I could be way off.
  5. I never thought about that either. Only down side would be if you hired some smuck that talked good but really had no clue what he was doing, and now you have your name on a bad install and end up doing it yourself anyway. I know in my case I already have all the tools and my helper has been doing construction for about 40 years, I call him Dad.
  6. I would check with N Glantz. I have bought letters from them in the past, just dont know if they sell blanks or not.
  7. Oracal makes a special tape just for this. It is called HT55. Here is a link the their webpage. If you request a sample the usually will send you a small roll that is 6 inches wide. It is plenty to see if you like it or not. Another thing you might check is your blade pressure. If it is too high you will have the same problem no matter what type of tape you use. http://www.oracal.com/products/product.asp?seriesID=239
  8. This may not be in the right place, but I was wondering if someone could tell me the difference between these two machines. I know they are both print cut machines but that is about all I know about them. The reason I ask is I am starting to look at adding a good used print cut machine.

    Cammjet vs. Versacamm

It turns out I am pretty sure the guy was full of Sh*t. I asked if I would be able to come and look at the printer and see it working and he says no, I will have to ship it to you. I tell him I am only about 25 miles from you and I still get the same response. It sure sounds like a scam to me. If these people would put half as much effort into an honest living I am sure they could make a very good living. Looks like I am still looking for a printer, but now have a better understanding of what each of these machines will do. Thanks for all the help.

    rear window

I had a customer tell me he wants vinyl on the rear window of his truck but he wants to be able to see thru it. Other than printing on window perf. what other options do I have?
  11. I have a mh871 and if I cut anything over about 18" the registration boxes do not line up when I go to layer the decal. I use signblazer and just select the color of the layer and the color of the registration box when I cut. I don't move anything in the program I just select the colors I need to cut. Any idea what is going on?
  12. Sorry, I guess it would be eaiser to help if you knew exactly what was happening. I have a job to do this weekend that is pretty long so I will take some pics when I go to layer them.I do have some cut now that are about 24 long I will check on them after while.

    rear window

I was pretty sure the window perf was the only option, his windows are already tinted so I think the transparent vinyl is probably out too. I guess I will let him know. Thanks

    Cammjet vs. Versacamm

Thank you for the info guys. Fivestar what kinda cost would I be looking at to convert to solvent inks? The one I am loking at is the CJ-500. FWIW They also said both print heads were replaced just over a year ago.

    Cammjet vs. Versacamm

Hi James, nice to hear from you again. The deer and the fish turned out great. I have always heard good things about roland, I just don't know alot about the printing side of the business. I guess I am trying to find out if the cammjet could be used for outdoor printing or if it is only good for indoor stuff, and if it is ok for outdoor use would I be able to use it for car wraps , window perf, etc. I found a cammjet 54" for 2300 that is still in use, and was also just serviced by a roland tech recently.
  16. I mainly notice it when I do an outline or a shadow on lettering. The longer the graphic length the more it will be off. I do as you said with the extra color always on. I have had my machine for a while now and it came with the Signblazer. Where would I find Sign Cut?

    What material for Fire Suit

Your buddy just might be suprised at how much of his rear end that "cheesy suit" would save. Anything that is put on our turn out gear after it comes from the factory is sewn on, and is made of the same material as the rest of the outer shell.

    Vinyl on awnings

I was asked to put vinyl on an outside awning. It is made of a canvas type material, but I don't know how well vinyl would stick even if it is a good cast like 751. Has anyone done this? I just told them I did not think it would work very well but that I would do some checking and get back with them.

Midwaste, what did you use for a heat source?
  22. Bigfoot , from what I have seen around here your prices seem to be pretty close.

    Just a Trick

I kinda see what you are saying now from your other posts, about having to move your stop/start point to overlap you cut lines, and you are right if you don't have a closed path then you will have problems weeding. In your last post that is where your blade offset comes in. By adjusting your offset you are telling your cutter it needs to move past the last node by X amount. Like with mine it is set at .25mm.

    Just a Trick

I think I understand what you just said :-? You are right if you have a bad vector and the nodes do not line up right then you are right you can not correct this with the blade offset setting. The blade offset is not how much the blade sticks out of the holder, but is a setting that the program uses to make sure the cuts are complete. On the box the blades come in it sometimes tells what the offset should be for those blades, 45 and 60 degree are different. The blade offset is set in the setup screen after you hit the cutter button on Sign Blazer, mine is set at .25mm for a 45 degree blade. I hope this makes sense, I am not always the best at explaing these things.
