  1. Tater,

My advise for what its worth is to tell you to go for it especially if you have someone willing to split the costs 50/50. Would be great for you if you have somewhere you can set up all your equipment and not have to put it all away everytime! you can leave projects in progress spread out all over and not worry about it. Seems like a great deal to me! I opened my shop last year and havent looked back. I'm on a side street off the main street, I have put every cent back in my shop with improvements and more shirts, vinyl etc etc. unless you have a big fat checking account you will have to start small. I have alot of empty shelf space and I will slowly fill it up with mail boxes I want to decorate as well as etched glass items etc, when I have time! I have done flyers and I hope to have some kind of event this summer, I have been thinking about what I want to do, some kind of customer appreciation day thing, hot dogs and hamburgers etc my parking lot is big enough to set something up. Keep in mind that everything you do and buy is a tax break for you. Keep every receipt you get.

There are so many advantages to having your own place versus a flea market setting. I also participate in the town summertime craft shows etc. We have many of those. There are so many cheap ways to advertise and get your name out there! Let us know what you decide and Best of luck to you!

  2. I buy all my shirts from virginiats.com, I carry the 3x and the 4x, though i have found a solution to the people that think they need a 4x, I have been buying the gildan brand 2x and 3x LONG. Gildan to me is one of the better made shirts, not too much shrinkage, many many colors, and they come as big as 5x but I have never bought that big.

  3. Nice toy....... how could we live without a laptop.

I bought a new Dell desktop in 07' and have only turned it on about 10 times.

Just bought another laptop (Dell) in March. The Toshiba started to feel warm.

Gee wiz! I had the same problem with my HP, was getting hot and actually cutting off! I bought the Dell Studio, plenty of ram and a huge hard drive. So far so good.

I have two desk tops one at home that no one uses. its function is for the router to use it so we all can use the wireless on our laptops and my other desk top is at the shop hooked up to my cutter.

How true that is, another thing I do is pay attention to window graphics alot more and wonder what the guy paid for that or I think to myself I could have done that a whole lot better! LOL!! I also get alot of ideas from my close scrunity as well, because there are some really great signs and shirts etc!

  6. WOW i'm moving to cali. Looks great.A job like that here would've made around $75 profit. ;)

Great job! Remember though dangard, he is paying more to live than you are I'm

sure! Got to factor in the cost of living! I'm paying 300.00 a month rent for my store, If my store were in California I bet the rent would be 1,500 for the same place!

  7. left side for me too, I believe thats the standard, I have looked at many many shirts ( on people) and it always seems to be on the left side. Its amazing how you pay closer attention to peoples shirts once you start doing them.

  8. Just loaded up the smoker with 12 full racks of baby backs and a 9.5 lb butt.  The ribs are for tonight - the butt will finish up for tomorrow for sandwiches, etc...

I plan on spending some today working on getting my first contour cut out of my new (got it Monday) LP24.  Right now, everybody is gone until late this afternoon, wife, both kids, 2 sets of in-laws, ME time... !

    :D :D :)

    Address   :D

OMG babyback ribs ARE my most favorite thing in the world....next to cowboy beans and they sure do go with babyback ribs...lol.  I'll bring the beans!

  9. Renee ,

Look into making the Lady you describe a " sub-contractor " . You dodge many possible expensive problems . Workman's comp , insurace & responsibility IF something bad happens . A simple agreement form & letting them control their own hours will constitute a sub-contract basis ( at least in Md ) . If you do have employee's , best to carry the protective insurance .

Yup Rodger thats exactly what I'm going to do! I feel like a weight has lifted!

  10. one of my recent projects...

is about 8" wide. I used simi-metallic gold & opaque black. it looks sweet at night cause the gold is somewhat translucent with all the lights on in side.

I love it! I just bought a whole bunch of different colors, I want my windows to stand out instead of ho hum with only white vinyl!

    Very Very nice!

  11. I can't imagine sitting in a shop all day waiting for somebody to call or walk in, I prefer to go out and "hunt".

I suppose that's why when I first walk in on my customers they always seem to say "I was just thinking of calling around and getting a quote"... I just say "I think they call this fate".

I also think it's easier for me to add some additional elements to the job when I can actually point out ideas while the ether's still in place.

I also look for work in the immediate areas I have jobs in so I can point out my work...

I guess living in Los Angeles with a sign shop every two miles does have it's disadvantages!?!?!?

Ahhhh, I wish I had the time to just sit around...lol. I got more than I can handle believe me! There is so much I want/need to do for myself ie new store front vinyl, wall graphics, mailboxes to display etc etc, I just dont have the time!

I have actually decided to "hire" someone. She is very creative, needs a job some kind of bad and we compliment each other. I told my husband she is 51 and not better looking than I am he cracked up! LOL!! I was kidding of course, she is a really nice person.  I really didnt want to have to go thru all the red tape of hiring someone so she is going to work on commission only. the more we sell the more she and I will make! No red tape to go thru no taxes to file, I will 1099 her at the end of the year and be done with it. Is a perfect solution.

RG, living in a small town definetly has its advantages!
