Cut line at bottom of artwork

I installed the upgrade and no change. I will look into Inkscape and do a little reading before I install it but not to sound stupid, what is it? My set up has been working fine since I got it back 2008 so I have not had to post many questions.

Cut line always appears at bottom of artwork

I'm sorry, it has been a while since I posted this and forgot about it but I am still interested in finding out why it cuts. I attached an EPS file. I use Adobe Illustrator CS3 on a Mac. When you export the file to SignCut Pro to cut it, in the background it takes my Illustrator file and saves it in a legacy format to cut from. See if this helps. Thanks again, Magnet.eps Magnet.eps
  4. I have had my Copam CP-2500 for almost 2 years and have not had any issues. But I have one question that really has not been a problem but would like to correct. On every cut, the plotter cuts a single line at the bottom of the artwork on the X-axis the same width of the art. Even if I use a weeding frame, you can see that it doubles the same cut. I had time over the holidays to pursue a resolution. It may be a software issue and not a plotter issue but I thought I would start here. I am going to attach an image that shows this. I use an iMac with OSX 10.5.8 with Illustrator CS3. I had previously used CS2 and had the same issue. I use SignCut Productivity Pro to cut - 1.00 for Mac. Any help with this would be appreciated. I would have searched the forums but "cut line" brings a lot of choices. SignUp2Day

    Copam Plotter Cutting Issue

Thank you for the quick reply. I will download the newer version and follow your instructions. Attached is the artwork I exported to SignCutX2. I had to attache a PDF of the document because of the size limitations. Let me know if you see any obvious issues. You may be correct about the slack. It may have been the weight of the vinyl that the machine was unable to pull. I hope that was all it was. Crimson Banner Output.pdf Crimson Banner Output.pdf
  7. According to the USCutter website, they have Roland Cemented Carbide Blades - 60 Degrees, listed under parts for the Copam 2500. Has anyone purchased these for this model? Do I need to purchase anything else if I do buy them? And how do they work with this model? An early thank you for any replies.

    Copam Plotter Cutting Issue

I have an iMac running OSX 10.5.6. I am running Adobe Illustrator CS2 and CS3 for designs. I am using SignCutX2 to cut on a Copam 2500. My first job which was very complicated and detailed, but cut perfect. It was only an 18x24 sign in one color. More recently I had 3 banners to do, all 3'x6'. They basically had 4 lines of text, one line was reversed (negative) in a box with a line going through it. The line was an actual box not a stroke. Everything was outlined and combined, one color, etc. But when it cut, it would drop letters from my text or cut individual letters on top of each other as if they were overlapping. The letter "y" would overlap the letter "o" in the word "your" as if the kerning was tight. They didn't even touch in the original design. The previews were fine with my tiling. I have one theory. The default settings in SignCutX2 have the RTS, DTS, DTR and DSR settings turned off. According to the manual, the RTS, DTS and DTR settings should be checked. I am going to order a pen to test before I waste this much vinyl again. But do you know what might have caused this? When I outline text in Illustrator, do I need to use the Pathfinder tool and merge the objects as well? Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.

    Serial Adapter Connection Questions

Thanks for your help Kenimes. I'm sure you get all types of strange scenarios on the forums. Here is what is weird. I downloaded this driver the other day and had no luck getting my computer and SignCut X2 recognizing or locating the plotter as a USB device. I have read many of the entries in the forums of yours so I assumed you were some type of moderator. So once you said that I should go with the direct USB connect, I took notice. I reinstalled the driver and then went to my system preferences and searched for a new printer device and found it (a step I missed the other day). When I launched SignCut X2 and went to my plotter set-up - low and behold it was there. I've made several cuts. Works great!!!! Easy to figure out without reading the manual too. Part two: Because, I had several computer cables lying around trying to get a serial connection, I think I was using the wrong USB cable too. Out of curiosity, do you know if the USB cable that comes with the Copam 2500 is black in color? If so, that is what is working. The other one I have is about a foot longer and it is the standard computer grey color and it has one of those cylinders in the line. Using this one, I can make one cut then I have to relaunch the software again to gain a connection to the plotter. Anyway, all is solved and working like it should. Thanks again. Thanks again.
  10. I have an Intel iMac with system 10.5.5. I purchased the Copam CP-2500. I am going to use Adobe Illustrator CS2 to design and SignCut X2 to cut. I read about the communication problems macs have with this particular plotter. I first tried communicating straight with the USB connection. No luck. I purchased the Keyspan USB to serial adapter and I noticed the adapter for the serial side is a 9 pin male and the plotter has a 9 pin male. I have a 9 pin serial cable, but it has a male end and female end, which will not work. A serial cable with female connections at both ends, which is what I need, is labeled a modem cable when I look them up on-line. Can I use this? Is this what others have used? Or can I use another adapter to change the male to a female connection to use the current serial cable I have? Second, I have a cable that will connect from the Keyspan adapter to the parallel port on the plotter, should I or can I use this instead? Last, the Keyspan specs show that it is 3 ft. in length. Do I need to be concerned about the length of the serial cable or parallel cable I use?
