    Political Sign Opinion Needed

I would take the italics off Gilley and do all caps for "GILLEY", also reversing "GILLEY" out of a solid red bar in the middle. The most you can expect ppl cruising by to read is his last name, and that is what is most important!

    Weeding

You can try putting application tape on the unweeded vinyl, then removing the backing and weeding the vinyl from the bottom...

    Screen printing

I've seen ppl use old ovens to cure their shirts...I remember when I would cure my shirts with a heat gun...It works good, it's just a hassle. An IR gun will help get an even flash. Doesn't the ink get on your teflon??? Maybe you should try parchment paper? Are you using vinyl as a stencil? Any plans for an exposure unit?

Tell that to the Japanese! http://www.pinktentacle.com/2007/05/extreme-japanese-custom-vans/ Now you just need the "Soccer mom on board" decal!

    Screen printing

Great color choice! That came out great (especially for printing on black). Do you have a flash dryer?

    Hello! New Guy from PA

Welcome from the DubC...West Chester, PA!
  12. For simple text and supplied art ready jobs I don't charge an art fee. But for certain customers (that I know are or will be finicky, I'll say the first 2 revisions are free, then $25/hr with a $10 min (say its a 15 min. revision). For art design I charge $25/hr. but the beauty of it is I can make up my hours...Sometimes I can bang something out in an hour and charge for 2 (if the work is worthy) and sometimes I shave hours b/c I don't want to smack a customer with a $150 charge (plus mark up) ...my $0.02

    clear transfer tapes.

I prefer perfecttear...I have a 6" wide roll of clear for small car decals...Sometimes I use the clear at the bottom of the text (and paper for the rest)...This helps me line up/mount the text straight when dry applying...

Camo pattern with cut vinyl (baja truck)

  15. John, you should get 2 more incisions at the bottom to make it into an arrow pointing down! Heal up soon brother!

    Application tape dispenser

There's topics about this...Search "home made tape dispenser"...It's really quite simple!
  17. Just wondering what you guys do if a customer wants, lets say, reflective vinyl on a few shirts...Basically, if you can't get the material by the yard and a minimum roll is expensive...Do you just bite the bullet and keep the rest in inventory or do you charge them for a roll or is there a standard addition mark up you put on the price?
  18. Good to know! I will keep you in mind if need arises...

    cherry blossom

Thanks! I started working on something for the branches, I can use those buds...
  20. So your 200% + 40% pricing, would you do 200% of the price and then 40% of that or plus another 40% of the original cost? I really like playing with different ideas and specialty products. I am just afraid of biting off more than I can chew pitching different ideas, only to get a small order...
  21. Start off with some business cards...Use pregnancy to your advantage...Get some Oracal 631 for wall words/images for a baby's room. This way, you can make something for your child to be's room. Take a pic and then you have a nice conversation/transition piece to show other mothers to be you come in contact with...Stir up some business with them since you are more likely to come in contact with a lot of them and they'd feel connected to you. Its a good way to bring up business. For example if a friend, coworker, lemaz classmate (spelling?) or acquaintance asks if you're ready for the baby to come, you can bring up how you cut some design or wall word for the babies room and how awesome it is. It's smoother that way vs. trying to force feed sales! Start with a niche and branch out from there! Other newborn ideas for you. -baby on board decals -decorated picture frames -decorated toy chests -personalized stroller decals (maybe use reflective vinyl)
  22. Hello from West Chester, PA...I a lot of clothing sales from my website and ebay, with a fair amount of locals. My vinyl sales are mainly from local word of mouth. IMO, people don't really understand vinyl and it's applications. I try to always have a cut sample to give away, and picks (on my phone) to show them different applications. But thats just me, vinyl is side work for me, so I go off word of mouth.

I know places sell those putty spreaders as "ink cards" in the screen print industry. I swear there was a place that would imprint your logo/info on them...Or use your plotter to cut a logo and stick it on them. ...I usually just tell ppl (who buy simple car, wall decals) to use the shiny side of the paper backing to rub the design on with. But that is for ppl I don't want to waste cost on for a simple decal.
