Anyone have any suggestion for finding thick corrugated plastic boards? Probably 3/8-1/2" thick 3x5' ish. I am guessing shipped would be outrageous for large media, so what type of store might have these locally?
-
We go to Sac often enough I can probably pick some up there, thank you, they did not come up on the coroplast site.

not a small issue, good to know

I lent out my last 2 little chiselers and did not have them this weekend to remove CHROME of all things. That prompted my search for other ideas, and that rubber wheel came up. Looked interesting. I do like my little chiselers though!...remembering to add them to my next order list!

So you put the painters edge up, cut along it, move it, cut more? I can be a little reckless with a blade at times and worry about cutting the rubber or the newly laid vinyl. -
Thanks Jay2703, bummer they are all super far from here. Jaybird, thanks, I was trying to look online, but was not sure the mil. This might be a dumb question, but is there a difference in Coroplast brand vs other stuff?

I have a BS, but have not laid vinyl down with it yet...still trying to get the app tape to go on consistently. Good idea on the black board too, much less surface area to cover. This is a sign for an event this weekend, so I was a little short on time.

A very wise Jaybird once said, It sounds like you have been looking over my shoulder, lol. (Note to self: cut Jaybird quote for my office wall.) LOVE IT because its so true!

lol, i will usually keep some small wrinkles, etc, but the whole middle section of that taped piece was one.huge.bubble. Its like it didnt even get any pressure. I can work those out easy, but its the giant, vinyl creasing, have to cut it again wrinkles I get that are more the norm with app tape on top of BS. Thanks for the tips. Yes, raising the back to an angle. My table is green mat, then melamine under that, on top of a plastic costco folding table (I think it's pretty flat with the melamine sheet). I have only used the GS tape in 24", that could be it. I have some Rtape conform for RTA stuff, which I love, but its only 12", so no BS. I actually use my "home made" BS's (aka painters edge with felt) for the little stuff, which works great. I think I am going to order some different 24" app tape and try that. Its frustrating...i want to use it, but many times I end up seaming tape together to avoid it, lol.

Yes, I usually have the app tape on top in the cradle (it will either be perfect or totally jacked up). I tried a 15" graphic with it on the table, then I remembered I always get BIG pockets of air through the middle when I do it that way (?). They are better than huge wrinkles, but still not great. Would love to get this to work consistently.

How to get cut vinyl lined up on window from edge to edge?

sorry, the coverup was referring to my current job .. just putting a black strip across the bottom of a new store front window that is showing an ugly desk behind it. The catering sign above is a job I will be doing...8 windows in total, they are removing old, and I have to install new. Will be a pro at getting my '3 sides' cut/installed straight after that. -
Avery Chrome has a 1 year outdoor rating? 5 years and 3 mil thick...that sounds pretty good!

kal, that was going to be my guess as to how to do it, and good point on the non square windows. Good practice for this upcoming job (8 windows): 904gfx, i also thought about wet install, but I have not done too much of those. I might try it with this small cover up job. If i cut long on all 3 sides, and use wet, seems like it would be hard to get all the moisture out. -
i STILL have such a hard time taping large cut graphics with my BS. Its a 24" I have watched videos, made about 60 large banner sides, practiced and its a crap shoot if I get it on without wrinkles. Maybe I am not strong enough? and LOVE LOVE the backing knife cutter, seriously most handy tool I have purchased

yes, sorry,...oracal 751

Honestly, I gave up on chrome (have the same you do). It was difficult to weed without tearing, scratched super easy and the worst was REMOVAL. It was next to impossible...heat, remover fluids, etc etc. little.tiny.pieces. I started using Oracal 751 090 - Silver Grey (Metallic). It is not by any means a mirror finish, but has flecks of metallic and pretty easy to work with. It was just for our logo, so I was ok with it. I really love using chrome the color, but not chrome the vinyl, lol. But I might be interested in the Avery wrap? If you try it, post some feedback

Since I have not yet bought my heat press, I had this one by a friend for our company. He used ThermoGrip from Stahls...I had 4 of them done. The mesh part is stretchy, and I pulled and tugged at the other vests, and it seems to be just this one area, possibly a couple other spots on the outside straight edge. My husband wore this for about 3 days, no washing yet. I am going to see if he can repress this area (and replace the E), but I am curious what your thoughts are as to what happened? Uneven heat, material, time?

Lifting on Safety Vest with ThermoGrip

I found out from my husband it was like this before he wore it. Good to know the vinyl works well generally. I am looking at heat presses and will be doing all our stuff in the near future. I will call our friend who did them and see if he can repress for now. Also, I would want to know if there was an issue with my stuff so I could fix it -
Looks nice! Love that font...might have to buy also What type of HTV did you use?

So, I have been reading through lots of stuff on heat presses. I originally bought an SC cutter, and within 3 months upgraded to a Graphtec. Now my SC sits until I can get it sold :| I am guessing I might be in the same position if I buy an inexpensive press? I am looking at the Hotronix Fusion ($1850), Auto Open Clam ($1450) or MAXX ($1050). OR I could spend a few hundred dollars on a starter press. I MOSTLY want this for our company stuff, however, I also said that when I bought my cutter, and I have stayed pretty busy as word got around. So, help me make my decision...will I be upgrading quickly if I buy a starter model? And between Auto Open Clam or MAXX will they open wide enough to keep me out of the ER? Here is what I mostly want to do...and I do this all part time Tees (layered colors, i can be very creative, lol) Sweatshirts Kids stuff Probably some rhinestone stuff (maybe on hats later?) Mesh construction safety vests Is there a way to do t-shirt sleeves without a hat press?

motoxchic replied to motoxchic's topic in T-Shirts and/ or Garments
yeah, thats the one I found too, cant find one with a flat press. OWJ, you sound like what is going through my brain. Swing style: Hotronix 16x20 $1850 GeoKnight 16x20 $1392 What is the major difference in price here? Clam Shell: Price differences between Hotronix or GeoKnight in this category seem comparable. Any advice on brand, ease of use, quality? And is threadability important? -

ok, i have googled for the last 20 minutes and found 1 video using a hat press on short sleeve, and 1 for a long sleeve sweatshirt (which was helpful...just folded the sleeve at the seam and pressed over 2 layers). Is there one you have seen that would be helpful? thanks, feeling like its my first time googling at the moment, lol.
