    Can you guess?

Being in the market for a new cutter, I do not doubt these cutters' ability to cut very well. My main concern would be one's long term performance. How would it hold up in 5 years, etc. Forgive me if it appears as some sort of thread jack, i am merely pointing out what a potential new comer would be looking for. Great thread btw. Charlie

    can the Pcut.....

Can the Pcut and MH series scan the size of the paper you load like the Graphtec or Roland or can only the Laserpoint do that? Is this feature totally different than the Laser point all together? Is the Laser Point oNLy for seraching for registration marks? Thanx in Advanced. Charlie

  6. Heck, why not go a 'lil farther and just use strips of vinyl and label them. 24" media, 15" media, 8' media, etc. on each side.

  9. Devils Advocate: What happens if they decide to walk, and tell potential customers how expensive you are, and that they found XYZ to do it cheaper. Anyone they talk to will usually go to XYZ. I understand your point completely. I guess it is a little different in my situation. At least for what i do, it is already expected that im not the cheapest painter in the market for i do way more than just flames or drips. 97% of the painters in my field don't give their clients a full digital rendering of their cars so they know exactly what they are getting. Since i actually do do freehand art and not just masked or stenciled work, if they decided to go to xyz painter, and believe me when i say...no amount of money is worth dealing with a PITA Client, they are free to. There are sooo much business available for everyone...serisuly, if they know how to find you, they will find you. Loss of a few bux in a bid is way better then $$ coming out of my pocket for MORE work because a drop shadow is 1mm too low and want another free paintjob. Or even worse, they used a solvent to clean their paintjob, ruining they paint, then wanting you to redo it. No...if i see the signs of a potential client who would cost me heart ache and money out of my pocket...especially clients who say "I can put your kids through college i can give you so much work" i would gladly turn them away.

Best software to use - pros and cons!

I learned how to use Adobe Illustrator in college, and not teach it at a college level. I am probably in the minority here, but since it was the platform that was taught to me, i recommend using it for doing your logos and such. You can even trace an image from the net and convert it to a vector file using Livetrace. There are several free tutorials on how to use the software online so it is something to consider. Anyway, my 2 cents.

Have you tried the Mac Tac Spray Mask? it is grey translucent, low tac paint mask. I swear by it. You might want to give that a try.

    Hello Everyone

My name is Charlie Barnes and new to this scene, but not new to cutters. Currently, i have a Roland SX 15 and has done very well for me. I am an RC Car painter and have used my SX15 to cut hundreds of paintmasks out of it. Although, after over 9 years of using the cutter, i feel i have out grown it and is ready to upgrade to a 24" cutter. I have had my eyes on a Roland GX 24 until one of my Moderators of my forum directed me here, so here i am. I am interested in the UScutter Laserpoint 24, but am not fully convinced it may be the best for me. I plan on doing signs as well as tshirts with it on top of going in production for my precut rc masks to sell. If any of you have any suggestions/recommendations, it would be greatly appreciated. BTW, i use Adobe Illustrator to design my masks. I assuming signcut is the program to use to cut my AI files? Thankyou again in advanced. Charlie B cfxpaintworks.com

  17. I agree with the above...if you already know you will have a customer that is going to be a headache MUCH later after doing the gig, quadrippling the price of what you would normally charge gives you two good results. You either get rid of him, or you are getting bank for 4x the amount. Either way, you won't mind both. And if he comes back after the job, you are too busy to take any orders at this time.
