  1. I have a laser point cutter that is about 12 years old. I no longer have a computer with a serial connection. Is their a certain type/brand USB adapter that will work or is there some other fix for this? I also don’t have the cutting software any more. Is there a place to download it? I had the flexisign software originally.
  2. That’s when I was using my laptop with the USB connection. Now I have an old desktop hooked up to it with a serial connection. I’m trying to set it up to work as a plotter so I can cut directly from Autocad or Fusion 360. If I can get it to show up as a plotter I should be able to make it work.
  3. I did that and nothing happens. The cutter shows up in windows devices and I see the job in the que but no response from the cutter.
  4. Ok I’m back at it. I’ve dusted off my old desktop PC that has a serial port and hooked the cutter up to it. I installed SBE. I can go into windows device manager and can see the cutter. Only problem I have now is drivers. When I open the US Cutter folder and select the laser point cutter and try to install the drivers it says it can’t find a driver for this machine.
  5. Does the laser point use HPGL or something different? I’m want to cut directly From Fusion 360 or Autocad.
  6. Ok. I guess I’ll try that next. I have an old computer that has a serial port. I guess I could set that up just for cutting.
  7. Will it show up with a serial connection?
  8. Will it show up with a serial connection?
  9. I guess what I really need to figure out is how to get my vinyl cutter to show up in windows as a plotter. I can send files directly to large format plotters which use the hpgl format. But when I try to plot a design my vinyl cutter isn’t showing in my list of available printers/plotters.
  10. No it isn’t. I downloaded Inkscape a couple of days ago but haven’t tried it yet. That was next on my list. I was trying not to add another software between steps. The design software can export G-code for 3D printers and CNC but not a vinyl cutter or graphics format.
  11. That’s part of the problem. EPS isn’t an option when I export or save it.
  12. I think I have it figured out now. I was saving as a dxf file and was getting a blank file when I imported into SBE. Just took me awhile to find the right settings.
  13. Cutter seems to be ok now. I haven’t used it for at least 6 years, so I have to learn all over again. I’m not cutting vinyl This time though. I want to cut gaskets. Has anyone done that before?
  14. I have a mill.....I could make that out of aluminum.
  15. making progress. I went back in to change comm ports in SB and scrolled all the way to the bottom and found one called Blazer COM4- USB serial port. Never saw that one before. Selected that one and now I get a response from the cutter.
  16. Ok....what windows added was just the usb serial converter, not the actual cutter. So I need to still get windows to find my cutter.
  17. When I plug the cutter into my laptop windows 10 names it USB-serial in device manager. I open it up and under drivers it lists the drivers I installed that came with the SBE download. Driver FTDI version 2.12.28.0 i won’t have much time to mess with it again until after 4 pm today.
  18. No luck yet. I can see the drivers are installed in device manager but I still can’t see laser point in the cutter setup drop down. Choosing the creation P cut doesn’t give me any result. So far the only thing I can get the cutter to do is power up. If I hit the “ on line” button it says on line but that’s it. I’m done for tonight. Will try again tomorrow.
  19. i installed the US cutter drivers. I'll try the CreationPcut option.
  20. sorry......I looked again and found the USB connection. I also tried the link to download sign blazer and finally got SB elements to download and install. I installed the drivers and then went into cutter setup , but the US Cutter laser point isn't listed.
  21. Guests Report post Posted January 21, 2010 Just for a heads up, the null modem cable is for the MH series. A laserpoint uses a straight thru 9 pin male to 9 pin female to connect to serial. Howard Irwin Support Specialist US Cutter 425-481-3555 888-298-8143 - Option 2 I found this post
  22. ok....I thought i just used a regular serial cable before and it worked fine.
  23. What’s the purpose of the null modem cable?
  24. Mine only has a serial port.
