a company called me up (an old friend). Wanted to remove the vinyl from a 16' x 34" building sign. We are just a hobby shop and not insured (yet) or even geared to climb up ladders etc. I politely told him, since he has contacts that if they can take it down, I would price the work. I could have contacted a Sub Contractor to do part of the work I couldn't, but from what I got from the client was that this would be beneficial for me as experience (meaning, do it cheap) or exchange for some of his work. I am all about gaining experience, but not at the thought of loosing money hiring other contractors. How would you guys in the business longer than I, would have handled this? our experience is in small car decals, banners etc, not climbing ladders and taking down signs.

never thought of that approach. Now I have ideas on who to call and get some prices vs renting, etc... The client did say, he understood we were just specializing in smaller items and will still come to us for smaller stuff and I will go to him for the stuff I can't make.

Ted S. it's about 12 / 14 feet high. Even if I go up and get it, it's 1 piece that is 16' in length, so transporting it would be another issue.

I was just on the phone with him and we will be working out a deal. I will get a subcontract price for him and go from there.

mine does the same thing. I have to reset settings, then re-add my cutter and all is OK again until the next time I reboot my computer. Wasn't doing that before.

A lady I know sent me a pinterest picture of a family wall with lettering and wanted me to redo it in different fonts and different sizing. the biggest one is 36" long. She will send me pics when she is done. the other one is a boat decal. gold with black outline. I still need to get better application tape to do DUAL layers as the one I have is not see through so hard to do. my g/f did it by hand. transfered the gold on the black vinyl cutout.

OK, i was forgetting to convert outline to an object. you learn something every day I guess in these hobble's part time gigs.

I do a design in Corel Draw, letters with OUTLINES. I save it as SVG to open with signcut and my outline is very tiny compared to the CDR / SVG file it opens OK in inkscape and exporting to signcut, it does the same what am I doing wrong? I have joined curves, welded and all the same thing. probably something minor but can't figure it out. thanks

Black Chancery. Thanks. Wonder why What The Font didn't pick up on that, it scanned a perfect M, but couldn't figure it out.

the one I have been asked for, is MERLIN. I did a print screen and sent it through what the font and it couldn't even figure out the letters. I did another one for another guy that I was able to process through Vector Magic, but I don't own it and the trial has run out.

Someone sent me this. I am trying to recreate it in Corel, so I can work with it. I got it very close, but there's extra cutting lines. Tried to remove them, but somehow, the nodes are not showing up. I did turn on the option to track nodes, change text to curve etc... Any help would be appreciated.

my exporting as gif and retracing it did not produce a good sharp vector.

I did that and it helps in Corel but in SIGNCUT it's back with the odd lines. I may have to give this one up

Trying to WELD, it's not working like I want it too. Here's what I have so far. hard to get the right shadowing, etc. I am not working with Illustrator. it's corel x5.. It wouldn't let me upload svg or cdr. I loaded an AI file. thanks. MariaDelRae.ai

yes and thanks. I'll try that tonight. Just learning as i go.

I suppose i could just vectorize this one instead of recreating it. but that would be too easy and not a great way to learn.
