nope, that won't work. But, this seems to work. Make a contour cut, 0 offset. Separate the contour cut and deleteor move the original design. Uncompound the contour cut. Delete the unwanted cuts. Should leave you with what I think you are looking for. Contour cut= Effects menu, contour cut Separate contour= Effects menu, separate contour cut Uncompound= Arrange menu, compound, uncompound

Could it be to uncompound and then weld. maybe
