  1. u know sooner or later u have to tell them. i had to tell a customer last week who complained and tried to tell me how to do the job. after a while politely asked her being that she knew so much about the procedure would she rather do it her self of course the answer was no i don't know how to. after a couple of days of nagging and bitching about something that was not possible i sat her down, said a prayer and then i told her, maam i have done all i can and know how to please u, i have never in all the years of doing this job had i had such a difficult time pleasing a customer, and as a matter of fact i have never had any complaints from any customer that i serviced in all this years. i also told her that there was nothing else to be done to job, everyone in her family had already approved the job with no problem, they were very please that why they came to me in the first place because they knew the job would be done right. anyway, i suggested she was welcome to take her files and find someone else to do the job. i even gave her a couple of locations. after a long moment of silence she looked at me with the saddest face and apologize she didn't want anyone else to do it. she admitted to being difficult, her excuse was she was going thru a divorce and was coping to well. long story short. do what u have to do, because u really never know what's on the other persons mind and some of them will take u thru pure hell because of it. good luck

I expect you charged for your extra time? Shops around here require a deposit before even starting a design. Then charge a setup fee.

  2. Interesting, I never tried alcohol in the mix. Next batch I will.  Wet or dry it all depends on what your applying to and your level of experience. Newbee's should start with wet application methods and stick to small graphics until they get used to it. my2cts

  3. Tape aside, the utube vids I've been watching are a good guide for beginners but I have many issues with them. Mostly being too quick and sloppy. Most of the problems shown are caused by this. I really had to laugh when the narration didn't match the vid. fiverstar and others are trying to help but you need to do some serious research to learn the basics. Take your time, we'll help all we can.

  4. Ah KH - I see where you're going   Fresh build mate - only thing thats been installed is Inkscape, Artcut, Acrobat Reader 9 and Office 2003   I'll post up the file errors when I get home.

Unfortunately a fresh build means nothing when dealing with MS Windows. Try a good cleaning, you may be surprised.

  5. I'm currently using SBE trial (untill activation is fixed) and Vinyl Master Pro. Pcut 630 with a Bridge Pro 720 (rebadged Refine) as backup. I  have to admit I like both cutters. Today I had more anomalies with the Bridge so I decided to install a serial card and get rid of the USB. I'll post my results. The Pcut has been on serial from day one and performs flawlessly.

Pen plot is a good idea also. I've just been dry running the plotter and watching it. The anomalies are so apparent they're easy to spot.

  6. Sorry to say I have ArtCut, hated it and uninstalled it the same day. I suggest getting SignBlazer Elements. Unless you want to spend  lots of money this has the most bang for the buck. Does most everything needed for a startup shop and more being very easy to setup and use. Look around here for links to the free trial download and give it a try. It's fully functional. I think you'll like it.

  7. I've been in the lettering business for many years an now opened my own shop. I see many people wasting vinyl trying to get their cutter to work correctly. Try dry cutting first. No vinyle and the blade holder not installed with minimal cutting force setting. I use this method to see what the cutter does with the driver selected. This is best for testing software that does not have an exact driver for your plotter and you need to use a generic or other mfg's driver. I ran into problems today using a mfg recommended driver and needed to find another. It worked and I only wasted 10' of vinyl. I had the advantage of knowing where the error occurred, but it should also help with initial setup too. Doing small test cuts would be the next step. my 2cts
