2 possible problems - high humidity and/or dust particles on the vinyl itself. lightly wipe vinyl with clean paper towel thats lightly spritzed with rubbing alcohol. Also, as Joe said, you need to peel the backing paper from the vinyl. Put taped graphic on table face down, now peel backing paper back in a rolling motion so that the sticky side of the app tape and vinyl are pointing up once the paper is peeled away.
  2. Catagories would be great - tribals, flames, stripes, animals, etc .... ability to pick and choose the ones you want to print out
  3. only 200 fonts??? LOL .... sorry didnt mean to laugh, just decided to open my font folder to check the count - 12983 not including the 3 CDs of fonts I havent loaded onto the computer yet. Wonder if there's a Fontaholics Anonymous support group out there anywhere. Are you saying you have 12983 fonts INSTALLED, how does your computer run LOL No, only about 4000 of the 12K are in the actual c:/Windows/fonts folder .. I have a folder on desktop labeled FONTS that houses the whole 12983 ... Only time system really slows down much is when I've got Flexi, Photoshop, CorelX3, and one of the MS Office apps all running same time - then it only seems to slow down Photoshop to a noticable point, once in awhile Flexi will hiccup and take a few more seconds when changing a font. I'll probably go back to the standard grouping of default fonts in the c:/windows/fonts folder once I figure out how to re-direct all programs that would access that folder to access the desktop fonts folder instead.

Wonder if there's a Fontaholics Anonymous support group out there anywhere. I've got over 50,000 on a DVD and 36,000 in a folder on my desktop, GOD only knows how many others scattered thoughout my machine. You sir are a true fontaholic - please proceed to the nearest FA headquaters immediately for typography de-briefing LOL (I'm at around the 35K mark with what on the computer and whats on the CDs - LOL so I'll be sitting right there next to ya at the meeting)

    weeding frame question

weeding boxes just add unnecessary wear and tear to your cutter - much easier to manually put your weed lines in using exacto for the same reasons gg explained - you can position your weed lines wherever you want them that way. It also reduces your vinyl waste, as it allows you to "stack" your images closer together in the cut layout to maximize the usable cutting area.
  6. go $9/sq ft per color and add $45/hr for labor to install (shouldn't take more than about 2 hrs -give or take depending on application experience) See how that compares to the book ... (now that's assuming you are using Oracal 651 24" vinyl, I'd prefer to use the 751 cast which would be a bit higher per sq ft)
  7. Channel letters - ever see a sign on a bldg that looks like individual letters about 5" thick that are lit up at night? - those are channel letters, the "can" being the "channel" for the neon tubing or LEDs to sit in. Acrylic faces in whatever color, even sometimes painted or vinyl application to get multiple color in a single letter, .063" aluminum construction for the can - many times the letters are mounted on a raceway that houses all the wiring and transformer(s) - pretty cool actually to make them, not too incredibly hard either, just need metal notchers, a metal brake (a shear & brake is better), pop riveter. Actually I'm considering taking my logo and making a set of channel letters from it, most liekly using white acrylic and translucent vinyl for the faces to get the multi-color, although I've been tossing around the idea of reverse image airbrushing it on clear acrylic.
  8. Well, here's front and back of my biz card. Gracewriter, where are you located? It could work out that someone on here with more vinyl experience is willing to co-op the job with you - they walk you through the steps and show you how it's done, you get experience doing and you get the job done for customer.

    sign question

4'x8' sheet of 4mm white coroplast is like $10 - not gonna get much cheaper than that
  10. What??? I think that is unnsecessary. I bet you have a hard time deciding on what font to use, and that it take you at least 3 days to get to the bottom of the list! WOW Joe Joe - sometimes it's necessary to have more than needed ... I also do business cards, postcards, stationary, type portfolios for fellow racers, neon sign tubing layouts, logo re-creation/duplication (right there's enough reason to have a ton of fonts - seems every business has their own font choice & you have to match it because they dont know the name of it LOL), plus the racers always seem to want something funky and unique. Sometimes a pain if they want EXACTLY the same font, then you are comparing the lil tails and bends of different letters.

    banner material for lighted sign

without seeing it, but by your description its most likely not banner material - it is in fact probably a special translucent material called flexface. Glantz carries it, prolly in the neighborhood of $25-$30 per linear ft for a 10'-6" wide so your cost on just material (providing you dont need and mounting bar, flex clamps, j -hooks) will be somewhere around $700-$840, then the price of the vinyl or paint and masking & labor to stretch and clamp it, plus install ... honestly, $5000 really isn't that far off, last flexface job I did we quoted it at a lil over $4500 complete for 2 sides, installed and it was a 8'h x 10'w
