  1. Thanks for your input. It's that "pretty much" part that makes it seem complicated. I'll figure it out...
  2. Thank you for your insight, folks. Copyright seems really complicated. Can anyone recommend any website that could help clear it up? Thanks, again.
  3. Someone specifically asked for this poem. I am definitely going to check what's in the public domain, though. Thanks for the suggestion. I have received a response from Wesleyan University Press that my request will take about four weeks to process. So, my fingers are crossed. Could I get some more details/thoughts on the "Winter is Coming" bit? From what I've read, you can take small pieces of literature without violating copyright. Of course, there is no set percentage.... It seems to me that "Winter is Coming" is such a small piece of the the Game of Thrones Book Series, that it might be legal to make decals with. Any thoughts? Go easy on me, please.
  4. I have a couple stupid questions ;~) I have received a request for a creative wall vinyl quote using a poem by James Wright. I feel like I need to get approval, first. My significant other thinks we're good. I went ahead and sent a request. However, I would like to potentially make more moolah, and create wall vinyl using other poems. (As I type this out, the questions seem dumber and dumber). Here goes: What do you guys think? Is that a blatant copyright violation or what? And what about quotes from TV/Book hits? For instance, "Winter is Coming", etc..? Thanks
  5. Hello Everyone My boyfriend and I started a "business" about two years ago. Its really a side business. He's the artist and I'm his little helper who is finally trying to learn more about the business. We are trying to decide how to price our products, so that our prices are stable and I can bring in more business. We have started using the estimator from Flexi Sign Pro. Here is the problem: We have a customer who has ordered "oversize load" signs in sizes 5.5'x8'@$53.20 ea and 6.5'x8'@$70.83ea in the past. Now, they want a smaller one, size 4'x8'. We quoted them $37.33 for one--they're only ordering two. I entered all the data in the estimator and the price comes out to $9.87ea; that's 0.83 for the vinyl, 0.37 for the masking tape, $5 cut time, and $3 weeding time. My boyfriend thinks we should charge a design fee(min$30) for re-sizing it. I think that is ridiculous...$30 for 30 seconds of work?? On the other hand 10 bucks seems really cheap. What do you all think? What would you charge? Keep in mind that my boyfriend's father works for the company, and we don't have to "work" to get their business...just in case that makes a difference. I'm going to keep reading these forums! Thanks Leslie
