    newbie signblazer question

Sorry, I was out of town for a couple of days and was not able to respond. I just took your AI file and saved it in a format that I could import into Inkscape. I did a trace on the file and saved it as a .pdf file that I could re-open in illustrator. I then saved the file as an illustrator version 8 .eps file. This is because Sign Blaze would not recognize a version 9 eps file. Adobe Illustarator will work fine for design as long as you save the file as a vector graphic instead of flattening the file to a raster. A raster graphic is like a picture, there is nothing for the cutter to follow. A vector graphic actually has vectors for each line of the outline that the cutter can follow. If you open a graphic within Adobe Illustrator, choose your select tool, select the graphic, now left click and try to move the graphic. If the entire picture moves as is, it is not a vector graphic. If on the other hand, the outlines of the picture moves with little dots on the outlines, this is a vector graphic. In some versions of Adobe Illustrator there is a trace tool that does the same thing that I did in inkscape, my version does not seem to have this tool so I have had to use inkscape instead. I also found that the .eps file created by inkscape cannot be read by my version of illustrator, or by sign blaze for that matter. I have found however that a .ps file from inkscape can be read by signblaze - not sure why, still working on this.

what should i get for my first cutter

Unless you plan to do alot of diecutting that requires the laser, the P-cut is an excellent machine. I bought one as my first cutter and I love it.

  9. First you need to check your blade depth - Your blade should only be sticking out of the blade holder about the thickness of a credit card. Set your pressure to about 90 to start and if you are cutting small intricute stuff you need to slow the speed down to 30 or so - if it's not small stuff you speed can be higher. Do a small test cut and make sure the blade isn't cutting into the backing paper, it should just be barely touching the backing paper when it cuts - if it is still cutting too deep, back off your pressure. I went through this about two weeks ago. Hope this helps

    Electric Car?

Guys - I worked on the EV1 program - Nobody was hiding anything - the vehicle leased as a 30K car, the batteries were 2K a piece and there were 26 of them. You do the math. With that Nickle Metalhydride pack (which was the extended range pack) you could only get maybe 120 miles on a charge, if you wend down hill alot! Battery technology has been the big hinderance of the electric vehicle - customers want an affordable vehicle that will get them atleast the range and ease of use that they have with their gasoline engines today.

    New To the Board

Hello! I am new to the board. I have already spent about 5 hours surfing around - You guys have some great info and support out here! I have a new P-cut - have already completed my first vinyl job for our teen room at our Church - it looks awsome. Look forward to sharing with you folks in the future.
  24. I am a new P-cut owner - I loaded Signblaze on my Vista Compaq laptop along with the USB driver. Now when I connect the USB cable from the cutter, the computer crashes - Anyone have any experience with this? Any idea what to do? If not, can I get a new activation code for Signblaze for my old XP laptop? Thank you, Steve.
