I cut vinyl and I can bake, too...

I should probably put this in General Discussion... but technically, I am showing my work... The jar I made Erik for Valentine's Day came out awesome. I'll fill it with something dark so you can see the etching in the photo.... In the meantime, I also baked, and baked, and baked. For 2 days. And since he was working all weekend, I brought these to him on an awesome plate that I etched (again, pic will follow once I take it...) Traditional Black & White cookies - but pink and white for V-Day Dozens upon dozens of miniature shortbread cookies (they're the size of a quarter) - both dipped and sandwiched with milk chocolate Delicious waffle pretzels, hershey hugs or kisses, and topped with an m&m. I used caramel kisses and peanut butter m&m's. Chocolate Almond Ice Cream Cupcakes with a sugar cone crust..... a little bit of frozen heaven. That's my Show Your Work contribution for the week. I'll post pics of the glass I etched when I have time to take the pics. Sorry if these pics come out huge.... someday I'll master resizing...

Etching - cream vs. sand blasting

As I mentioned in a previous post, I tried etching. I used the etching cream and it took 5 minutes to make. It was extremely easy, but I've seen a few discussions on the board about sand blasting. Does it yield a noticeable difference from etching cream? Has anyone used both and can provide pros and cons of each? Here's the plate I made. I had to photograph it on a dark tshirt, so the pic isn't that good. I bought the clear glass plate from Walmart. Will this work on cobalt blue plates or red plates? They had both of those colors, too. And how the hell do I make this picture smaller??

    tshirt lineup

LOL Rodger, yes I have!! I try and mind my own business but ya know, sometimes ya just cant!! My youngest son broke up with his girlfriend and has moved on with his life but the girls mom will just not play nice...lol. She is one of those that will sit in the local diner and talk talk about people behind thier back etc. Well three times now I have been told by different people that she sits there every day and at least once she will say " Kenny is an asshole" So I just happened to go in there the other morning ( I can count on one hand how many times I have been in this place in the past 5 yrs...lol) I just happened to see her sitting there with three other gossip mongers and when i walked by she had the nerve to smile at me and say how ya doing? I said well hey Donna I'm fine and if you will stop telling people my son is an asshole i will not tell anyone that your daughter is a fruitcake and a HO. She sputtered and turned red in the face and didnt know what to say so i said have a nice day and went on my way. Felt good I tell you...LOL!!! She hasnt said anything in regards to my son since then, maybe she learned her lesson??? LOL!!! Renee Renee.... you crack me up!! I would have said the exact same thing... but probably in a very sarcastic NY accent.
  5. Ugh - that thoroughly sucks. This economy is frightening. I had to lay off 3 people and cut a day per week from 5 others in the 3 departments I run at work. I can't even begin to think of what I'll have to do in 6 months if things don't pick up. Good luck. Maybe you can get your sign business booming with extra time you'll have to dedicate to it!

    Hello from Long Island

hey barbara.... I'm from Long Island, too!! South Setauket, to be exact.... I don't have nearly enough time to spend on the forum as I would like to -- damn day job gets in my way 50 hours/week. UGHHHHH. I've had my plotter for about a year now and learn new things every week! You're more than welcome to drop on by my house and borrow some application tape to see if it yields a better result for you. Lisa

    Valentines Day

Boy I hope Erik doesn't click on my browser history and see this thread. I keep telling him I want airline tickets for V-day.... With 6 kids, I NEED to get away. He's gotten boxer briefs and more police tshirts than I can remember. And appreciates every one. Made him a shirt today to wear to his soccer practice.... says.... "Don't be a prick" with a porcupine on it. I giggled when I pressed it.

I was so excited to hear of this... then I saw the YouTube video. Seriously - I would go insane.... I just wanted something to silkscreen paper -- like a Gocco from Japan or something.

Who here uses a graphics tablet?

My 12 year old uses her Bamboo every day. I let her draw her own designs and I cut them out of vinyl and make her t-shirts. She loves the tablet so much that she's decided to use her savings and get herself a new tablet laptop this month. She'll be thinking of more designs to sell....Here's the first one she did for herself last year:

    Happy Birthday Tile

Nice job, Dazzle... My sister is getting married in September and her "theme" is butterflies (in honor of our other sister who died awaiting a 2nd heart transplant). I dread the butterfly weeding.... and am trying to convince her to do a more "funky" open silhouette....
  20. I bought a 12x12 shadowbox frame and sheet of scrapbook paper to match the decor of my friend's nursery. I did a 2-color large initial and then a single-color name at the bottom. The application tape was easy to remove and didn't stick to the scrapbook paper at all!! I think I've found another avenue to travel down.... Pardon the crooked-ness of the frame on the couch. I was running out the door for the baby shower and had only a second or 2 to take the pic before shoving the gift in the bag and out the door.

    Shadow box using scrapbook paper/vinyl

no - both the script B and the 'bella' are on the paper. I had thought about putting one on the glass..... next project is to use a frame with a mat... and put the baby's name on the mat and the initial where the photo would go.

Do you have or want to open an ebay store? Look here!

since all of my items are customized, I set up an Etsy shop..... Insanely cheap. Extremely easy to use -- and people can pay using PayPal. Etsy is an online marketplace for handmade goods -- so perfect for my vinyl creations. I wish I had more time to put more items up there.... some day! --Lisa
