  1. The finished product!! I ended up cutting a 24" wide blue roll into 1/3rds to get 3 45" strips 8" wide, just using a scissors. Then, I cut the black side strips 1" wide using the cutter. I think the results are pretty good! Thanks for all your help and encouragement. Cheers, Dean
  2. Honestly, those were the first signs that I tried to apply myself... I bought some relatively expensive Oracal transfer tape (can't remember if it is medium or high tack). A couple other variables that could be at play here... The white vinyl was calendared (Oracal 651) and the black was cast (oracal 851), it was pretty cold out when we put the numbers on the car and we were in a hurry (always bad!) as a race practice session was about to begin Cheers, Dean
  3. I tried the white on black for the attached panel and got a lot air bubbles inside the numbers... Don't know if that was just how I applied the vinyl or if is was a result of having two layers for most of the panel and those small "holes" in the top layer that cause the bottom layer of vinyl to bunch up when I applied it. Dean
  4. For the attached graphic, would you recommend having the WHITE vinyl as the top layer or the BLACK vinyl as the top layer? My inclination would be to have a white panel with black lettering on top of it to minimize the amount of "double thickness" vinyl that I have to apply. Much less opportunity for air bubbles between the layers! But, just wanted to make sure that I wasn't missing something obvious, as I'm really new to this. Cheers! Dean
  5. I uninstalled while I was connected, then I was able to reinstall and use the same key that I received when I installed SignBlazer on the first laptop. I didn't need to contact Signblazer for a new one. Thanks, everyone! Dean
  6. My mistake, Ken. It's Signblazer, NOT signcut.
  7. I'm going to be getting a new laptop today and want to install signblazer on it. I'll be getting rid of the machine that signblazer is currently installed on. What do I need to do to ensure that I don't screw everything up? Thanks!! Dean
  8. All good stuff, everyone. Thanks for the advice. Regarding buying 12" vinyl so I don't have to cut it... well, that's why I try to find friends smarter than me!! I never thought of that! I think I will experiment with just lining up the "side stripes" so I don't have to waste all the black vinyl. Cheers, Dean
  9. I am going to make a two-color strips that will run down the center of my race car. It'll be a 10" wide blue stripe with a 1" black border on either side of it. I've got a mockup of what the car will look like attached. A couple questions: 1) What's the balance between wasting vinyl and ease of installation/best results? I guess my specific question is, should I be cutting a 12" black stripe and then applying a 10" blue stripe on top of it (before applying to the car) or could I get away with cutting two separate 1-1/8" black stripes and trying to line them up with and overlap them along the edge of the middle blue stripe? The second technique would save black vinyl, but I'm afraid it would be a nightmare to apply straight. 2) Since the stripe will be in several sections on the car (front bumper, hood, roof, trunk, rear bumper) should I be creating several smaller sections or cutting one massively long stripe and then cutting it up into sections? I'm thinking cut smaller sections to start with, as they'll be easier to work with. 3) When applying the stripe on curves, is the idea to heat it a bit and stretch it so that you don't have extra material that bunches up at the edges? I'm thinking about the front bumper which is crowned in two dimensions (curves towards the back horizontally and vertically) I'm using Oracal 851 on advice that it's "better for applying to curves". Any help is appreciated! Cheers, Dean

Where is the best place to sell some unwanted vinyl?

Thanks, gang. Someone PM'd me and we worked out a deal. Cheers, Dean
  11. Hey gang, I don't see any sort of classifieds in this forum, and I want to be sensitive to following forum rules... Don't know if trying to sell things here is verboten? I'm a newbie and I bought a couple rolls of Oracal 651 (black and brilliant blue) before learning that the best vinyl for my application would be 851 (it's for a race car and will have to be applied over some curves). So, I ordered some 851 and now have these two unused, brand new rolls of 24"x10yds sitting around. Signwarehouse states pretty emphatically that no "consumables" can be returned. Should I just go with the default - eBay? Is there another forum/marketplace somewhere to post them? Thanks in advance, Dean
  12. Hey Gang, I've already gotten some help in the other forums, but I thought I'd introduce myself properly in this forum. My name is Dean and I live in Marin county, just north of San Francisco. I bought my PCUT 25 primarily to cut vinyl graphics for my wife's and my race cars. I'm sure I'll end up creating graphics for many of my friends' cars, too, and maybe even make a little money doing it... Thanks in advance to everyone, as I'm sure you'll be answering a lot of questions for me! I'm impressed with the level of knowledge and helpfulness that I see in the forums just by browsing. I'm looking forward to the day when I'll be able to contribute to, not just partake of, the knowledge here... Cheers! Dean
  13. Doh!! Man, that's embarrassing! Sure enough, I hadn't pulled the cutter out of the box, yet, and it was hidden underneath. I thought the box seemed pretty heavy... I'm sure this won't be my last stupid act with the cutter Thanks for the help. Dean
  14. I just received my PCUT 25 (yesterday) that I purchased earlier this week. I bought one with a stand, but there was no stand in the box with the cutter. Should I be expecting this shipped separately? I only received one tracking number via email... Thanks, Dean

What should I do to get started with my cutter?

Good stuff! Thanks for the links. All of these have been helpful, and I'm fired up to get the cutter in the next few days... Cheers, Dean
