Weird J with some cuts... CE6000-60
theishkid posted a topic in GraphTec Cutting Plotter Support Requests
I have not finished the entire manual yet so I apologize if it talks about this later on... Graphtec CE6000-60 MacBook Pro running Flexi Starter 8.5 On all of my test cuts I am getting a really weird J that is cutting into the film (but not as deep as the rest of the cuts). It's also been on a few but not all of my designed cuts. And on some of those designed cuts it is on an area that is going to be weeded away so I don't think it's necessarily anything to do with the design. Is this something anyone has seen before? Blade holder is clean, the cutter is cutting everything extremely well... But this happens every now and again. -
I've got a couple of issues going on with my CE6000... the main one is this awful noise coming from the carriage. I took a video of it as it's the only real way to describe what's going on. It's like the motor is still moving just a little bit. It doesn't do it until after you select the kind of material, and you can't hear it until the fan goes off. Does anyone have any ideas?

CE 6000-60 Noise Problem

Did yours do that from day one? Or did it just randomly start up one day? -
CE 6000-60 Noise Problem
theishkid replied to theishkid's topic in GraphTec Cutting Plotter Support Requests
There's suppose to be a way to do it from a mac but I couldn't figure it out. I just borrowed a PC laptop from work and followed the instructions. http://www.graphtecamerica.com/graphtec-america-support-downloads-cutting-plotters-ce6000-series Does your cutter make that noise when it's sitting still like mine does in the videos? Or just when it's moving? -
CE6000-60 Making Noises at Idle

Is it doing the same thing mine is doing? Take a look here: http://forum.uscutter.com/index.php?/topic/45111-ce-6000-60-noise-problem/ -
CE 6000-60 Noise Problem
theishkid replied to theishkid's topic in GraphTec Cutting Plotter Support Requests
Wanted to give an update on this... Graphtec has had other people mention my issue, however they said they hadn't heard any as pronounced as mine. The consensus was that I should update the firmware since it was a known issue that had to do with the Gain settings for the Y motor... whatever that means! The firmware did not help, here is a video taken after the firmware update. I sent them that video and didn't hear back from them for a week so I made another video found here of the same thing. Still didn't hear back from them for another week so I sent another email asking what was going on. The responses seemed shorter and they didn't seem to care as much anymore. They told me the sound is normal. However if it's normal then why did I go a year without it ever coming up? And why does it not always come up? They really only seemed concerned with cut quality... and I haven't noticed anything out of the ordinary with cutting. I'm just worried this thing is going to turn into a paper weight right in the middle of a big job because the motor goes out or something. The only other thing I was told is that I can send it in to an authorized service center that's 175 miles away and they can take a look at it. -
My second problem, and this could just be a Cutting Master problem but I don't think it is. There is a small chance that I changed some setting the other day but I really don't remember doing anything. Everytime I cut something, the plotter does not come all the way back to the starting position. It's like it starts a new starting position about a half inch to the left. It creates a stair stepping effect if you will. Take a look at the pictures and let me know if you have any ideas. Thanks! Here's the starting position And here is the position after it is done with the first cut. Might be hard to tell. Take notice of the blue strip.

Nope... Cutting Master 3. I'm about to head home and I'll run through all my settings inside it. -
CE 6000-60 Noise Problem
theishkid replied to theishkid's topic in GraphTec Cutting Plotter Support Requests
I got one of the first machines that came off the line. It's been running strong every night that I've used it for over a year. This has just developed over the past year and a half (almost). I know what you mean about the noise level, especially when running slow... but this is a new development that just started about two weeks ago. At first it was kind of random when it would happen, now it happens all the time. -
CE6000-60 Problem Number 2

I'll definitely check... I'm just wondering if it has something to do with my other problem. -
So I'm about to buy the new CE6000 sometime in the next couple of weeks. I'm currently using a PCut with my Mac and Flexistarter for cutting. I know it comes with the new Cutting Master plugin for Illustrator but I would also like to keep Flexi going while I learn the new software, plus I have a lot of repeat business and keep all my Flexi files. So the question is... Will Flexi be able to recognize the new CE6000? The build I have doesn't have the CE6000 settings in it yet (obviously). Do you think I need to wait a while till they come out with a new build of the software? Or do you think I can just set it to the CE5000 cutter? Thanks, Brad

Anyone else having the issue? Mine dies on the "loading tool engine" prompt. I've already tried reinstalling but that didn't help.
-
Yea it seems to be a little slower and a few less features than flexi. I miss the poll size from flexi and the show size feature. It might even be in there and I haven't had a chance to find it. I do really like not opening up an entire other program and might actually cut down on my time in the long run. I'm just very frustrated that flexi is so far behind and doesn't seem to care about mac users anymore. I mean... I was actually told that "flexi 8.5v2 is officially compatible with 10.4 thru 10.6". If that's the case then why is USCutter and other sites still selling it?

Talked with Flexi Support tonight. If you have a working version of Flexi do not upgrade to OSX 10.9. So with all of this going on tonight I just happened to open up cutting master and it worked just fine (since I design in Illustrator). Why have I not been doing this all along? Is there something better about Flexi's cutting that cutting master 3 cannot do? I'm just need to know if it's even worth downgrading this mac back to 10.8 when I have a cutting plugin right there.

Anyone going to take the plunge early and upgrade to Mountain Lion? I didn't have any problems upgrading to Lion last year and hope the transition is as smooth. Hopefully there's no problems with Flexi and my PCut.

About to buy new CE6000-60
theishkid replied to theishkid's topic in GraphTec Cutting Plotter Discussion
I find that when my roll gets down to 2 - 3 yards it gets light enough that it can start unwinding on its own. I very rarely use the brakes, you'll get to the point that 9 times out of 10 you will know if there is a high probability of rolling. -

Hey Justin, I'm glad you picked up a Graphtec and are local! Let me know if you have any questions on the machine. We may also need to chat about some holsters pretty soon! -

My Back is KILLING Me!!! I need a new desk, what do ya'll work off of?
theishkid replied to blackpaws's topic in General discussion
I just got one of these... http://www.sears.com/shc/s/p_10153_12605_00959091000P It's completely adjustable to your height and the surface is solid. No more graphics moving under the straight edge like I had with the white lifetime folding table. I also put a rhino self healing matte that was custom cut to the table... http://www.speedpress.com/products/2/1 -
Wall Decal Not Sticking to Wall - Help me troubleshoot?
theishkid replied to blackpaws's topic in General discussion
My parents paint is a very porous matte finish with very little texture. They claim it's eggshell but it's almost too rough for that. My decals do the exact same thing to certain parts of their wall. Some stuff sticks great, other things just fall right off after a day. That paint is probably the reason it's not sticking but I haven't had one like this happen yet. Do you know how long ago it was painted? I too am curious about that weird halo effect they have going around the decal. -
