  1. If it freaked out more after grounding it to a true earth ground, I would suggest buying a cheap AC outlet tester available at any home or hardware store. The kind with the little lights to show it's wired correctly. If you didn't with the socket yourself, it always pays to make sure it's correct!

    Help with eps file

You're right. There's an eps header on that file but nothing else. Try this one. I used gsview and ghostscript to convert it. aqua-logo-finals2.eps

    Why so negative

Yes, it came with signcut, but I never even looked into it. I don't like their subscription model. I know the first year is free, but if I get used to it and then decide the subscription isn't worth it, seems like a waste all around. If I buy software, I want to be able to use it on any computer I have (which change frequently) and I definitely do not like leasing software. That was one of my biggest complaints about that damned wood carver I bought and got stuck with... Just me. And roxanneupnorth, having lots of vinyl laying around would be great, if you got paid for it. This is a hobby for me...

    Amazingly poor Service

I still haven't had to use support so maybe I'm lucky? I may even get upset if their phones are messed up and on my dime. But I would also understand the problems of a new phone system and try backing up phone calls with e-mails and maybe even fax! As far as that $25 part? To me, that part for that price was comforting and one on the plus side when I decided to purchase my new CT900 36" PCUT (model mentioned for Ash's sake ). I think it's a reasonable price for what it is in today's market. Just my 2 cents, and now I'm broke...

Ash, it's my head that's supposed to be foggy. You've asked me that twice already I bought the CT900, 36" PCUT at the end of February. I'm actually surprised it's been that long. I have problems with time... And still happy with it!!! (I just read that complaint posting).

White & black, definitely. Red I don't know about? I've only used about 4 squares inches so far for a few hearts on a wall graphic. When I ordered the 631, I went for a basic color set including green, blue and yellow. Haven't used the blue at all. And then I realized that I also needed a neutral background color and bought a roll of beige. Finally used the red last night for the second dragon for my van. I just hate the thought of buying another 8 rolls... Money's tight here. I hate making decisions theishkid: You're lucky/smart for getting flexi. I keep wanting to try contour cutting with mine but there's no way to do it with SB and now I'm too cheap to buy flexi

At least it sounds like you didn't waste it. When I bought mine, I ordered a single roll of white 15" Greenstar along with all the 24" Oracal 631. I thought that would be my test & play vinyl. Somehow it never got used... Then when I made that peeonoil sticker for the back of my van, I thought that would be perfect for it, and it was. Now I'm thinking of buying some 651 for good outdoor vinyl. But I've run into my old problem. Too many colors to choose from Then I started thinking maybe I should buy some 30" since I have a 36" cutter? Too many choices..... I liked it better when life was simple and all you have to do was sharpen the pencil

    Corel to Signblazer

Contrary to many windows users, I never use the "desktop" to store anything. Goes back to my old DOS days... I have a folder called 'stencils' (named originally from my airbrushing stencil work) that I keep all the artwork in, with many subfolders such as 'animals', 'holidays' etc... I import and export into those folders. SB imports and exports just like any other program from the 'file' menu. You can select any folder and drive you want after choosing 'import'. Same thing when exporting from Corel. Make and use your own folders to keep things organised.

You did a 30' roll in one night? Wow! See, that's the difference. You think big and I think small. I keep cutting small things and spending all my time weeding out those tiny little pieces. Maybe if I bought bigger vinyl I would cut bigger things?

    Why so negative

No, you made the right choice. I was just kidding. I just ordered so much initially because 1: I knew I'd need those colors for what I wanted to do and 2: a long stretch of faith in what I had read in these forums... Ordering more later is really the smart thing to do. But who said I was smart?

    Corel to Signblazer

Do you "cut & paste" into SB? I've done most of my work in Corel (X3), export them out to EPS files and then import them into SB with no problems. Now, I did have one graphic that got duplicated 100% on top of itself and I don't know where or when it happened. Only noticed when the cutter cut everything twice. So right now I can't blame Corel or SB, but it happened once on me. Other than that, I've had no problems with either text or graphics...

Great choice and I'm sure you'll have a lot of fun with it. But you did make one mistake with: "a little roll of oracal 651 white". I bought 6 or 7 rolls when I ordered mine and definitely do not regret that. I plan on ordering a few more very soon...

    GRAPHIC REQUEST please!

    very nice. Thank you!
  17. BearlyRich

    Anyone have these?

I like them a lot! I tried a trace, but these graphics are small for that. This is the best I could get out of Corel without a bit of touchup... They'll need some node editing before cutting unfortunately. edit... Sorry, didn't realize the svg file was of these and they seem better than my eps attempts too... assume1a.eps assume2a.eps
  18. I just recently had a problem cutting a small graphic. This made me finally get into the proper adjustment of my cutter, a new PCUT 36". I thought I'd pass this on because I don't remember finding this simple solution. Maybe it's wrong? But it worked for me and was easy... First off, I had the pressure set to about 60. Pressed the Pause button twice to cut the test rectangle. Look closely at the blade holder. I used a small flashlight and looked straight through across the vinyl. On mine, the face of the blade holder was not touching the vinyl. There was quite a gap! So I started lowering the blade by turning the blade holder knob, while still installed, and running another test rectangle. About a half turn per test. After a half dozen cuts, I got the face of the blade holder to touch the vinyl and then upped the pressure to about 100. Here, I saw the blade was still just slightly too far out as there was some scoring in the backing material. A quarter turn more of the blade adjustment and it now worked perfectly. I originally tried to adjust the blade height 'by eye' and using that "half a credit card' thing... Didn't work for me. This adjustment took all of 5 minutes and seems perfect to me. If this seem wrong or doesn't sound right, please let me know (yes I'm still a 'noob' ; and yes Ash & Rodger, my head is still foggy ). This blade setting plus the .25 offset in SB allows me to cut very small graphics with no pullout and complete cuts with no connecting whiskers. I wish I had done this from the beginning... Whoops, shouldn't that blade offset be .025?

    Why so negative

I just went through the similar decision recently and posted a short version of it in the intro section. I found a few interesting things while reading the negative posts elsewhere: First, most of the came from Graphtec and Roland users who had never owned a USCutter machine! Second, much of the rest came from people who had never used a cutter and "bought cheap". People who mostly should not own a cutter... They would have had the same complaints about any cutter they bought... I read back through this forum for at two year's worth of posts before I made my final decision and finally went with a 36" PCUT with the stand. I went with the stand because just about everyone stated they either regretted not buying one or would have. Now I'm quite fond of making my own work benches and such, but I'll state right now that yes, I would have regretted not buying the stand . Thanks to all who posted that opinion! I've made big mistakes in the past, like investing $2,500 in a wood carving machine that turned out to be even worthless as a paper weight... I do not consider my PCUT as a mistake and it works better than expected. I have not tried to cut tiny text yet, but I have cut some very small graphics with whole lots of tiny pieces. After finally following what folks here suggested for setting it up (speed, pressure and offset), the only "problem" I had was the blade pulling up a few dots in a graphic that were about 1/32" in size. That's pretty small and I doubt any other cutter would do better. So I did all this research, saw all the "negatives", read through this forum and bought the PCUT. I am happy so far. I will admit that I have no experience with trying any form of return or tech support from USCutter. Haven't needed it... My only possible regret may be that I didn't buy the Laserpoint instead. And that only because I like to "play" and playing with contour cutting sounds like fun... Just my 2 cents...

What Kind of Vinyl for Wall Decals ?

I've been doing wall art with 631 and think it's pretty good. Although I admit I don't have much experience yet. Is the HT55 tape that much better? I've been using Rtape 4075 (I think) which was the 'general purpose' stuff when I bought everything. No real problems with it but it does have trouble picking up the vinyl off the backing sometimes. I wouldn't mind trying something better.
