  1. not sure what everyone elses markets are like, but I would have been about $95 installed,

That sign calculator make no sence becasue it said $13 for a 10" x 6" and $25 for a 12" x 24" that is just crazy the front is 6 times more vinyl!!!

they way I figure it at least $10 a sq. ft. and so on a 24" roll I would do the 10" x 6" together to use only 6" into the roll, but you always charge for scrape so you would charge for 2 sqft or 12" x 24" to make the sides so just the sides are $20 + the install.

Seriously everyone should make sure they are charging enough, because if you charge to little you are hurting everyone as a whole, that forces everyone to lower there prices to get jobs, and we all make less.  You can keep yourself VERY busy doing cheap work, but it is very hard to pay the bills with very little profits.

  2. hey Ken sorry I missed your call, I was out doing an install on the last job I got to cut, I think I have the problem figured out, I am 90% sure that it is the power supply, what are the nessacary steps to get this fixed, I think it is still covered under warrenty, I bought the plotter in october of 2007 if My memory serves correctly. I am totaly comfortable with replacing the part my self, I just want to get this fixed as fastly as possiable.

    Thanks

  3. ok I got the plotter open, and the fuse is good on the power supply, I checked and there is power going to the power supply, so now I am thinking it is the mother board!  That sucks!!!!!!  Any help or suggestions are greatly appreciated!!!!!  Someone please help, I need to get this thing working, before my customers go somewhere else

  4. ok so I have like 10 jobs to get done, and now the my 24" copam will not power on, there is power to the strip it is plugged into, but the machine will turn on is there a fuse or something I can check, and help is greatly appreciated! I really need to get these jobs done, I cant leave the money sitting on the table.  thanks

  5. I like the Mustang in the garage.

Nice job on the Lincoln.         Correction*

    :)

The mustandg is a 66 with a straight 6, all original with matching numbers, and all the paperwork that goes along with it.  I was supposed to have it done to put that in th ecar show also, but at teh last minute I desided to paint the bottom also to that way it will be like it just came off the showroom floor!  That one will fetch top dollar when its done $$$$$$, I almost hate to sell it, we have been restoring it for 7 years now, but hey you know how much vinyl I can buy when I sell it! ;D lol

Thanks eveyone for the possitive feedback, also I highly reccomend anyone who wants more business to enter ANY car in a local car show, and do it up as I have done, It will definatley be worth it!

  6. I did my car up with a whole lot of graphics for a local car show.  I figured it was a good way to advertise and it was only $15 to enter.  I used diamond plate, holigraphic green, chrome, carbon fiber, Glow in the dark vinyl, and alot of plain vinyl.  I did the entire car design, cut , weed, and install in 8 hrs, no sleep the night before the show.  let me know what you guys think of it.  It got me alot of jobs already, did about 10 quotes the next day, and I was still taking names and #'s to go do more, definatly the best advertising yet.  there were about 600 cars in the show, and over 8,000 spectators.  Oh ya and to top it off I got 3rd place in my division, 96 and up stock,  I cant belive people voted for me in that class because the car is not really stock, with all the decals, and tv's and sound system, anyways I got a trophy! ;D  oh ya and I got to do some huge burnouts right in front of the cops and didn't get in trouble.

  7. I only have the jpeg.  I am looking for it in an eps if anyone has it!  I found a guy on ebay that sells this decal, and offered him $ for the .eps file.  I only want it to put on my show car (Toyota MR2)  So I can use it for some advertising.  If anyone has this or sees it on the internet anywhere please let me know, I need it bad  I was thinking this decal with "Unleash The Beast" under it, I also want to put one where the engine is that is ripping away, and has an engine or an eye under it, If worst comes to worst I guess I can always try to trace it, and then manupilate it, but I really dont have time for all that.  Thanks in advance for help!!!!

  8. those pics are awesome!

Dan, very nice. Did you have any problems with air bubbles or anything like that?

Ryne, what kind of etch vinyl did you use for the semeria imports job?

How does the etch vinyl handle compared to regular calendared stuff? Glow in the dark ... hmmm.... good for spooking the kids for Halloween? hehehehe.

I requested a sample sheet from Oracal. Can't wait to try it out.

Window film etched film is applied wet.  Also wet.  With the right solution and squeegeed very hard to remove all of it.

I applied mine dry, and had no problems at all.  I only apply wet if the graphic is longer than 2', and then I still might do it dry with a center hinge method.

  9. I wonder if Rynecoop checked with his accountant and researched things to find out he is in fact required to collect sales tax & that it ISN'T related to the Sched C for income tax?

I did check with my accountant, (my aunt is a cpa works out great!)  She said that I do not have to collect sales tax.  Yes IL does have sales tax, I never meant to say they didn't.  But the way I run my business, I do not need to charge sales tax.  Thank you for your concerns though, you kinda had me worried for a min.  then I had to call her to double check, and have her explain again how we have my business set up.

Maybe the IRS was watching this site and took him away  B)

LOL that was a good one!

FYI:  Just thought I would let everyone know that if you do charge sales tax, you only do it on the materials, not the labor!  I am sure those of you who do charge, are aware but I just wanted to let everyone know.

I guess if my aunt messed up and the state comes after me for the tax, I could just tell them that I wasn't selling products.  I am selling a service.  I give the vinyl away for free, and just charge to cut it, and apply it (all labor) LOL Just joking but I guess that you could say that if worst came to worst.   ;D

Based on the published IL info on sales tax here: http://tax.illinois.gov/Businesses/TaxInformation/Sales/rot.htm  I can't find anywhere that would indicate a for-profit sole proprietorship sign shop/graphics business would be exempt from collecting sales tax except on out-of-state sales in which the buyer is responsible for paying the appropriate sales tax directly to the state on said purchases ...  So if you are a sole proprietor and for-profit, I'm curious as to how you have your business "set-up"& the way you run it, that you don't have to charge/collect sales tax??

You may want to get a second opinion from someone who's a tax professional & not related or affiliated with your business  (not a customer). Also to point out, your FYI is misleading as each state has their own sales tax policies. So while IL may not require sales tax imposed on labor, other states do, i.e. Ohio - sales tax is imposed on all sales, tangible property(materials) & services/labor alike.

very good point Aardy54  I am going to check with another accountant, I dont want to take the fall for my aunts mistake.  thanks for the info

  10. I used the etchmark stuff I think its made by oracal.  I actually sell alot of this stuff, people like to put there names on there car windows with it.  B)

  11. I made a post of an auto shop that I did about 2 weeks ago, and I put there logo on the sliding glass, Hang on and I will find the post an dlink to it so you can see.

  13. I am getting my show car ready for the car shows in June, and July, and I am looking for the graphic that looks like the car is torn away, and a monster hand is coming out.  If anyone has this one I would be very appreciative if you would share it.  I don't want to have to spend $300 on some clip art Cd's, just for 1 vector that I want.  Thanks a million!  I really appreciate it!
