  1. Great post! FOr someone still trying to find their niche and place in the sign industry, this gives me a lot of confidence in standing my ground on pricing

    Measruing WIndow Curves

How do the majority of you compensate for curves? I haven't had any windshield banner jobs yet, but I know one will be coming soon and I want to make sure it goes on as straight as possible. Thanks

    outcome of today's playtime

Looks awesome, and what a great idea! Seeing things like this pump me up like no other
  5. Well, its getting to be a busier time of the year (I know my end is picking up some, I hope yours is too!) and I've been getting a fews commercial inquiries. However, with the economy being so poor, my bids have been getting crushed! I don't know if it's Craigslist or other businesses quoting way low, but I've have the cut my prices by almost 25%. I price graphics larger than 10" by the linear foot (15" and a 24" price) and for 15" of Oracal 651 used to get me about $6.75/ft. Now, $5.75, and specialty vinyl has taken even more of a hit for me. My question here is what everyone has been doing with their pricing since the economy has gone down? Also, I'm a part time business owner working to make this full time, but I had a bid on a Box Truck, 2 Pickups, 25 Yard Signs, and 2,000 business cards (4 color design) that i had quoted for $2,200. I lowered to almost $1,400 and got out bid by someone doing it for $987. How can you compete with that!

    Number Fonts

My favorite to use for numbers (even phone numbers) is called "Crillee Bold." A lot of race cars in VA and NC have numbers with that font, and the 4 is pretty close to the Morgan-McClure Motorsports font. Just Saying
  7. Seems pretty secure. I've gotten to use it a few times and haven't had any issues. It sends receipts, puts the money into your square account, and in about 5 days you'll have in your bank account. Very cool, I think. Also, when you accept a card (manually), you just need the number, CVV, exp., and zip code.

    Help Pricing decals

My pricing comes out to $0.48 a piece, but I add anywhere from 25-50% extra for small or tedious weeding. I think $0.75-$1.25 a piece would be fair. I'd tell them $1.50 a piece, then let them know you are giving them a $0.25 discount per logo because it's a large quantity. Tends to make customer happy when they know they are getting a discount
  9. Just a tip, if you have any scrap PREMIUM (2 mil) vinyl, use it. It will make a world of difference in your weeding and cutting.

    Vinyl vs. Heat

Yeah they are going on the valve covers, but I didn't know how much the heat from the headers would affect it. After talking to a few other people today, I think it should be fine. If not, I got a few new ideas in my back pocket thanks

    Vinyl vs. Heat

I have a customer who runs a shop that builds race car engines and he wanted some decals the put on the heads. I felt that it would be no problem, however the heat from the headers concerns me. I was going to use Oracal 651, but couldn't find any specs that made me feel comfortable with this application. ANyone know whether 651 or any other vinyl can stand up to the heat? Roughly... between 850-1100 deg. Thanks
  12. the first job,I'd say about $420-480 the second, about $175
  13. I would try to get $15 out of them. That weeding would be rough, even with premium vinyl

    warning or not.

I just got this same deal happen with me for a race car. I know the crew and everything should be legit... but one slip up and it could mean a big fine. Play safe-- get permission

    a couple practice cuts

Nice setup... I Like the Perry Signs logo, but the top Prototype logo is killer. +1... er, +2!
