  1. Im having a hard time deciding what I should be getting paid for since I am new at this. Besides the actual vinyl, what do you charge your clients for and how much? Example: Installation fee? Trip fee? trailers with rivets/panels? removing old vinyl? - things like that. Also would you charge an art fee if the customer wants you to come up with a logo or something for them? I know every one does things differently for different prices. And things will vary from job to job. But im just trying to figure out a fair and reasonable way to make the most of my time without them thinking I am just slapping on charges on top of the actual sign/decal cost.

    What do you think?

That is probably the biggest reason why I like it so much. I just don't know any better. Thanks to my dads last job I always got the latest version of software his business used for free. So I kinda grew up on corel I guess. Iv never really messed with any of the other popular programs because I had no need to. Like you said, once you have dedicated so much time into one program its hard to learn another one. And very frustrating! Im sure they can all do most of the same things anyways. Just in different ways. p.s. I didn't like corel x6 either.

Thanks for the feedback everybody! Just got everything lined up this morning. also messed with the font on the numbers a bit, looks a lot clearer now. ill probably throw together another one like tekcorps suggested and let Mr, farrier choose. Had a hard time making the shoe that big already due to my OCD-ness to keeping things somewhat realistically proportional. haha. But tekcorps is right its not about the anvil, its about the horseshoe. I just wont look at it too long wildgoose - I use corel draw x5 with smart designer x4.5 add on. Cant imagine life without it.

    What do you think?

Hi all, I have been cutting for the last few years for myself but am fairly new to the money making side of the business. Thankfully I have some good friends who are letting me start out on them to gain more experience and get comfortable with everything thing. My farrier who shoes my horse wants a logo for his small trailer and eventually his truck box that holds all his equipment. Hes basically letting me loose on coming up with a business logo for him (which is my favorite part). His only requests were that he wants it based on his business card (the font, info, etc.) and simple but not boring. And most importantly he wants people that have no clue about horses to be able to look at the logo and tell what he does for a living before they actually read what it says. More specifically, He wants people to know that he doesn't just trim and shoe hooves but he forges them so he can make a custom shoe to fit any horse. So he is not just a horse shoer but a farrier. Big difference. Farriers don't like being called shoers. What do you think when you see this logo? Do you think I hit the mark? is it clear and easy to read? its only a mock up so some measurements and stuff might be off. Not the final. Just looking for general feedback from people who know what that are talking about. What a better place to ask then on here!

I Bet Im the Youngest One On Here

Ok slice&dice. You did inform me that my website was live. Thank you for that. But I was only thanking you because I was raised to respect those who have more experience then you. Not because you helped me. Once again, I wasn't asking for help. I was asking for input on starting out in this industry. There is a difference. Haha. Believe me, I am well aware it takes more than a cutter to build a successful business. In fact im pretty confident I am more qualified to be doing so then half the people on etsy and ebay illegally selling trademarked logos. But I have to ask, if you are no longer in this business then why are you still on this forum? It would seem to me to be no longer relevant to you. As for the two headed cow, here's the story. I was out rounding up cattle from the desert and sorting all the calves from the mommas to be worked. After branding and tagging a few I struck up a conversation about deformations in cows with the ranch owner. we got on the topic of two headed calves and how it happens more than you think. So I asked, how would you brand and tag a two headed cow if they were to live long enough? Would it be considered one cow because of one body? or two cows because two heads/brains? Well we decided it would be considered one animal because it would most likely only have one set of stomachs (since they have 4). And when you lease land for grazing rights you pay per grazing cow. Well depending on the brand, you tag either the right or left ear. So which head would you tag? to which he replied, "Well...I guess the better half." And for some reason that just stuck with me. I made it my logo because it naturally draws people in and they have to ask what the heck is up with the two headed cow. And it looks cool in my opinion.

Now just because I thanked you doesn't quite mean that you had helped me. jaybird is right, I did not ask for a critique of my unfinished website. I was simply introducing myself and asking if anyone had some words of wisdom for me. You only told me what I already know. My site that is still under construction has issues. My fault for putting my url up in my profile. I didn't think anyone would care enough or have the time to actually view my profile. My mistake. But anyways..thanks for everyone's comments. Sounds like im pretty lucky right now with this 74 degree weather!

Well hey, I asked for advice so he gave it! For the most part everyone is pretty friendly and willing to help. That's why I like this forum and decided to make an account.

Thanks for the welcomes! slice and dice- I still am in the drawing board stage. I was not aware the site was even live until now so I have taken it off. I am not "in "business" yet and the site is no where near being done enough to do so. I have not sent any clients to it (I do not have any) and wont until I know its up to standard. Obviously there is still work to be done. And I probably shouldn't work on it at 2 in the morning when I cant sleep to avoid the spelling errors. But I'm more focused on learning my equipment and getting the cutting process down right now. But thanks for the input, really. You will be the first to know when everything is finished. And I plan on changing your opinion.
  9. Hey everyone. Thanks to my Grandpa and dad, iv grown up around the promotional product and graphic design software industry. Realizing no 19 year old girl knows their way around corel draw like I do, I figured I would be stupid not to do something with it. So I got myself a GCC Puma and am starting my own vinyl graphics business. Iv been lurking on this forum for the last few weeks and have already learned so much. So im sure you will be seeing around on here! Any advice you have for a newbie just starting out like me would be great! I could use all I can get.
