    cut not deep enough

i just started having this problem over the weekend after i put a new blade in. i have yet to figure out what the actual problem is. it's not the cutting strip, though. any thoughts would be appreciated.

    Blade depth changes while cutting!

i just started having this problem after i changed a blade. in my case, it's definitely not the cutting strip (i already checked that). and the spots where it's cutting shallow are not consistent - i.e. it's not in the same area every time. i too have a shit ton of jobs to do and this is really stressing me out.

maybe you should try not to use a msg board to flirt with the ladies.

huh? yeah i mean we do all of our artwork in illustrator and save as eps files, and then load the eps files into signcut (or signblazer). any suggestions to avoid the previously mentioned problems would be greatly appreciated.

yeah i don't know what driver that is. i'm using the ftdi drivers or whatever was recommended. i looked for the one dakota mentioned but couldn't find it. i was just brainstorming with my better half and she said that maybe it IS the cut file. ken has wondered about that before, as have some of you here. but, i just realized that it only happens on two eps files that i have once she asked me about it. the reason i didn't notice is because one of them has been cut so many times with no problems. i'd hate to redo it considering that it's some in-depth text that i did in illustrator, but if i have to, so be it. sometimes the files cut, sometimes they screw up. etc etc. i cut a ton of files yesterday that all worked perfectly. same this morning. but when i go to cut a couple of these other files, it's like an agitated pre-teen: you never know what's going to happen, but it's always annoying haha. i just want to solve the problem. that's all i care about. and nothing is 100% consistent with the problem so that's why i don't know what the problem is.

dakotagrafx: what is dgi om-60? if that's a driver, where can i find it? searched the board and didn't see anything. rodger: nah, the laptops are both plugged into the wall; we never have them on battery power. and i unfortunately can't even try a desktop, as all the computers we have are laptops. i also don't know what you mean by "the file went bad." it's not like i changed anything in the eps file or anything like that. and we're talking multiple files, different jobs, etc. i've had the setup since december and this has never happened until this past week.

all right, i talked to ken the other day a couple times on the phone...this is all post-our conversation... the cutter usually cuts fine. occasionally it'll do a stall or just scroll the vinyl out nonstop and i have to shut it off. tonight i went to cut a simple job, one that i've cut dozens of times already. it's small, we're talking 12" wide by maybe 8" long. about 30 seconds after starting, it fails. i try another job, same thing happens. i load some other vinyl, and this time it just scrolls the vinyl nonstop and i have to shut off the cutter. so i'm thinking about how ken was telling me about power issues on usb, especially with a usb2 converter card. so i'm like fine... i get my other laptop, which has windows vista, built-in usb2, yada yada. i installed the cutter and installed signcut and signblazer. eh voila...same thing happens. so i swap out the usb cable for the one that came with the cutter. same thing happens. so basically i've duplicated the problem on two different machines with two different cables and two different operating systems and two different software programs. to me that means it's either the cutter, which i doubt, or a communication issue with usb. being that they're both laptops, i do not have proper serial ports, nor do i have parallel ports. so i'm sitting here with 100+ jobs to do this weekend and basically no cutter. faaaaaaaaaaaantastic. anyone? anyone?

seems like it'd be a buffer issue or something, but i of course end up asking myself if it's ever going to catch up and finish, etc. it's cut about 8 inches and it hasn't restarted. the pause button won't work either (screen just stays at 'cutting'). been about 20 minutes or so.
  9. i tried to call but as usual, no one answers. waiting on a call back. i'm cutting something complex. not large (about 18" high, 12" wide), but a pretty complex design. about 1/3-way through, the cutter pauses. it says it's cutting but it's just sitting there with the fan on. i originally assumed that it was a memory issue but i'm not sure why that would be. lots of points in the eps file, but again, it's not big, size-wise. it's still frozen, says "cutting," and the fan is going. i'd like to get an answer instead of just turning it off and junking the vinyl (again). and i don't want to ruin the cutter. the same thing happens when i run multiples of the same job at once (x amount of copies) instead of one at a time. cp-2500 signcut x2 usb 2 windows xp 1 gig ram
  10. yeah it's pretty aggravating to pay this much for it and then have it be such a pain in the arse to change. i ended up drilling holes through the table and the mdf support. now i can just reach straight up through the table with an extended socket and unscrew them. wham bam done. every minute counts, right? and you're definitely correct about the platen height. i actually just figured the pressure wasn't showing up because the platen is so small. either way, it DID work with no spacers and the firmness all the way up.
  11. so i have my hotronix 16x20 auto that i purchased from us cutter back in december. got the 3 free platens...this weekend is the first time i've tried using them. my question is...is there any easy way, whatsoever, to change platens? i'm not about to spend 20 minutes or more changing one of them every time i need to do a different job. the bolts are in too precarious of a location to just slide a normal socket wrench in there, so i just flipped it on its side to change them out. pretty annoying. especially since i'm paranoid of screwing something up in an expensive machine by putting it on its side. seems like a small thing, but when you're looking for efficiency, it's not the best. (not to mention that the bolts are just over 1/2" so nothing in my socket sets would fit and i had to use a regular wrench haha...annoyed. gotta pick up a larger socket today.) i was thinking of actually drilling two socket-size holes in my table directly under the bolts for an easier change. anyone have any brighter ideas?
  12. hey all, i just ordered our first round of flocking (siser), and was wondering if anyone who uses it changes any settings from regular easyweed. yes, i can fiddle around, but it's always nice to have references. thanks! (cp-2500)
  13. I dig it. Glad you were able to get up and running without our support. We had a rough week. yeah that's what i heard. thanks for calling me anyway, though.

    Heat press settings.

yeah i did a zip-hoody last night (split the vinyl post-press). worked great. thanks.

    Heat press settings.

yeah i was using 5-6 on tees, but you had mentioned using less pressure on sweatshirts. i'm about to try out a sweatshirt so we'll see how it goes heh. if instructions did come with my sister, they were mistakenly tossed haha. woops.
