    Back Light car door

Hey guys I have a project that we Re working on. We have a Gem golf cart that is a promo vehical. We want to have door graphics that light up. The owner would like to keep the factory doors for the clean professional look but I don't really know if that's possible. I suggested making new doors and making them like a thin back light sign. We have seen a company that does an electro illumination film under a graphic. I've never see it in person so I don't have the slightest clue how that would work. Some one also said to edge light acrylic or frosted acrylic and put a graphic on that but i'm not sure how that will work out. Any help would be amazing.

    Police and fire price.

The red car wasn't so bad to be honest. I used masking tape at first to make sure it looked good and I like the placement. I measured a thousand times and placed registration marks where I wanted the thicker gold line to set. I spread the gold line over the shop table and layered masking tap on top to stiffen it up and make it much more rigid. I tacked one end at the back of the truck walked to the front pulled tight and slowly set it in place. I sprayed the masking tape with water to lose its hold and pealed it off the gold stripe. The white stripe I cut on the plotter about 3 foot long sections and it had a spacer peace cut with it. So the 1/16 line I kept and a 1/4 inch line that was removed as a spacer. I used clear transfer tape and slipped the line into place butting the spacer edge up to the gold pinstripe once it dried i removed the transfer tape and the sacrifice spacer and was left with the perfect spacing and the thin white pin stripe.

Yes the bleeds do suck. And the only way to have the black shadow and center on the letters is to make the gold an outline and slip it into place. It's rather difficult because the slip solution likes to pocket into the voids in the letters and doesn't let it dry well. I've tried to layer the gold over the black on the shop table but the problem with that is you can't cram all the parts of the decal in and create 3 times as much waste. Now if I they ordered smaller roles that may be easier. And Iill be honest I did have to do some knife magic in a spot or two where something didn't match up just perfect. It's hard to get something perfect trying to do it on the car over a 3 foot long graphic when the doors curv and twist a little. I may have to revisit layering them on the table before installing and ordering clear transfer tape.

I don't know why but I expected the cop car to cost more than the fire truck. The fire truck was a pain trying to get that pinstripe to line up perfect and the three layer graphic for the numbers and letter of but it didn't take much work on part of the weeding masking and cutting. I think each car took about 6 hours from cleaning them cutting the graphics and installing by my self.
  5. I don't know how I didn't realize that before. The 911 was an afterthought. It was finished and a few days later the fire chief came back and said it's required to have the 911 on there some where so I made it up. Good catch.
  6. I put some of these in the busness section for a price quote. But some things I've done.
  7. So what would you guys charge. For cut out weed mask and install. The material and masking will be provided by the Township. The cop car has two color black and gold on both doors. It has white reflective unit number on front fenders and trunk. An emergency 911 decal on back fenders. The trunk has a unit number the words police in three inch letters and a Web adress 15 letters long 2 inch tall and 2 foot wide all in white reflective. The fire truck is gold leaf pinstripe decal pre-made. The arrow heads are made by me with gold leaf and black. The white pinstripe was cut on the plotter. The letters and numbers are tricky it's hard to see them but they have three layers. A black background a white layer that extends just past the gold as a highlight "wish I would trust my self with a pinstripe brush and white paint" then engine turned gold lief on top, I think I got the pinstripe and gold leaf from Real Gold.
  8. I hope I did it right. I didn't file for a FEIN I hope that's the right route. Like I said I'm not planning on getting big. I just want to do a few contracts a year for a Township making and installing police and fire graphics. They normally get about 3 new cop cars and both boats normally need new letters after the summer cops smash them up. I plan on just declaring the income and additional income on my own taxes.
  9. Ok I'll start by saying I don't really plan on opening a business I have a good paying job and don't have time to go full out. Long ago I used to install police car graphics for a company that doesn't do that kind of work any more. the township called me directly to see if I wanted to install the graphics one a few new cop cars for them. Now the catch. I'm not a business owner like an LLC or DBA. So I would some how need a BRC business registration certificate to do business with the state. Does any one know how to go about doing that without having to set up a full LLC I just rather prove the extra money on my own income. The state department that wants me to do the work said they can add me to the payroll but they can only pay 12.50 an hour because that's what they are aloud to pay a temp employee and that's not even worth me driving to the shop and turning on the equipment. if I set this up right I can set my own price. Any advice would be helpful.

    Bush Wolf Camo?

Has any one used the Bush Wolf Camo. If so how does the image look? A friend wants to do the Duck Dynasty type truck bed half wrap and want to see how people like the Bush wolf graphic. I would just order real tree vinyl and contour cut in the grassy edge he wants on it but we were looking to add a few details into the print.
  11. Hey skeeter again your helping me. When it brakes down to calling lawyers. It's not worth it to me. I don't do much work and I don't plan on going big company box stores. I just don't need any trouble doing a side project. Everything used would be normal sign materials such as vinyl coroplast glue and plastic. But it's use would be identical to the one that has rights reserved.
  12. I was going to make a camo hunting blind. I see the something that is being sold online it's calmed to be patent pending. It has trade marks all over its logos. The product I want to make looks to use identical material as the one in the patent. I read the patent and it described using coroplast and vinyl or fabric camo. I don't know much about so called inventions and patents. I don't want to have a company lawyer going after me if I make a product a lot like there's used for the same thing.

    chrome mirror vinyl

Thanks skeeter. I'm going to make a few things for hunting. If you look up "ghost blinds" you will see the affect I'm going for. They make it sound like they are using a special mirror material. So I was looking into it. It basically looks like coroplast and camo graphic on one side and mirror vinyl on the other.
