  1. I sent an email to the school board - they forwarded it their lawyer - who responded and let me know that public school names are public domain as well as most of the school logos. Certain logos are copyrighted by their artists and the school(s) have free license to use them and I could send any designs to them for review if necessary. I also had to agree to avoid anything disparaging or of questionable taste involving the school's names and/or logos.

Very similar where I am at. I was told that all the public schools in our area are considered fair game as long as it was not in any kind of put-down against any of the others. There are some private schools that are probably a different story.

  2. I get a few wrinkles at the start and either pull it up and start over or keep pushing until things straighten out before I place my vinyl under there. I think part of the problem is that GS app tape. If you look at the edges how they are deformed a little. I have had the wrinkles a lot more on that app tape (I keep a 12" roll handy) than I have with the higher quality R-Tapes I normally use. Are you raising the back of the BS to about a 35-45* angle when pushing the roll? If you have it flat then that isn't applying enough pressure to the table, I think that would hold true to either method of application. I don't mess with anything on the front side holding the vinyl but I have had to reach over and hold it down for a few inches until the roll gets on top and then the roll presses the vinyl down as it rolls backwards along the top. I have had some lifting issues when placing the roll in the holder and trying that method, the uy in the training video just goes WHAAAA and pushes it across there like it's no big deal but I am much more careful as I can tell you are too.

Like Jaybird I have gotten a wrinkle (that was not a crease) and went ahead with the install and it came out fine but I would.t probably sell that to anyone for a self install. The one time I did that I actually built a fix for that area and took it along because I expected to have to repair it with a patch but it ended up fine. If you get an air pocket just pop it in the app tape off the graphic and you will never notice it again.

  3. I use an iMac. Mostly just for design. I have MacSign which came with my Summa cutter but  really don't like the layout so I use SignCut Pro for cutting but I am running the cut software on a windows laptop because I didn't want my cutter tied to my desktop. It sits over in another part of the room. I think the reason there aren't many posts in this forum is just what you said, not a lot of problems. Sometimes I have had a little trouble finding the correct driver, I never did get my old P-Cut chinese cutter working off the mac. Didn't try too hard for the same reason I don't have my current cutter running off it.

One of these days I may invest in a Macbook to replace my current laptop. How do you like your Macbook Pro? I would hate to give up my 21" screen for design but maybe as a second computer. I use CS5 like you, been thinking about trying out the CC version. CS6 didn't bring enough to the table to justify the cost of the upgrade but the CC version has some cool stuff. I am just not a huge fan of using a cloud based program that you have a monthly payment on.

  4. There is definitely a learning curve at first, I burn about 8 inches of app tape to be sure I have it running smooth and then use that edge and lay a ruler out to be sure my vinyl is setting square to the roll. I rarely have a mess-up now. I use the Big S with the black felt that is specifically for cut vinyl. It applies app tape great and will apply the whole think too as long as you can keep your substrate from moving. I used it last week on a big banner and it put down the vinyl without a single bubble. Kind of amazing really.

Motoxchic - (I have the backing cutter too and love it.) Are you trying to put the roll up on the holder when applying app tape? I have had much better luck with the other technique of just using the other side and pushing the roll over the vinyl, having the extra weight of the roll seems to help keep the tape from getting the little weird warble wrinkles. I use the roll holder variation when applying the vinyl to the substrate though most of the time.

  5. CS2 must be old enough that windows 7 and 8 don't like it. I'm not much of a computer geek but I think there is a setting to run older programs in a compatibility mode but I don't know how to get you there sorry. It will be well worth your time to get this figured out as you will have much better design success with the illustrator than you will ever get with SCALP. If you can get it working then you should spend a little time learning the illustrator program and you can still cut from SCALP but build your files in AI. My $0.02

Here is a link I looked up in google. You might try it or do another search and see if you can find something similar:   http://www.dummies.com/how-to/content/how-to-run-older-programs-under-windows-8.html

  6. I bet he didn't use a pillow to help get an even press. I have made a bunch of those vests and the nearby sewn hems are thick enough to cause problems without a press pillow or a press pad. They hold the platen off the base enough that it won't get even pressure. If it isn't screwed up you should be able to re-press it no problem.

  7. I'm not giving you a bad time. You should be able to open up one of the eps files located here : http://forum.uscutter.com/index.php?/topic/28386-crosses/?hl=cross#entry223756 And then go and download a free rose vector they are ll over the place so you can pick the one you like and slap it on there. Just open one of the files up and then the next one you can either bring it in to the one you are working on by using the file>place command or I usually open the other file separately and just copy paste it over into the main working file. There are tons of rose vectors out there and if you look there are some crosses although not as much of them.

  8. It's usually a little thicker than normal vinyl so you will want more blade out and maybe a little more pressure. I cut it all the time.

Where do you buy it Jay? Is it on a roll or just sheets and does it have any backing? I would like to make some window clings but have never looked into it enough to find the products.

  9. You are probably going to want to check the city ordinances too. They have rules for new signs and will probably have to approve them and you may have to have a special license to do that part of the work. In your position I would look for a "Handy Man" jack of all trades type and get them to put the sign cabinets up be it on a pole or on a building, then you can just do the substrate and vinyl.

  10. If it's a small decal I just put the whole thing on a piece of parchment paper and you can see right through it. I leave one edge with enough sticky exposed to hold it down while I pull the paper from between the two or if I'm worried I will just tape a hinge on there once it's in position.

  11. I would send her a new one even though she probably screwed it up trying to put it on. The Kudo's you can get from good customer service can be worth much more in the long run than a teeny little thing like that. If you are like me you probably have scraps that are larger than that all over the place.
