how to vectorize in CS adobe illustrator

Open a new file

Go to File > Place

Browse for desired image

With image selected go to Object pull down menu

Go to Live Trace > Make and Expand

You are done

If you want to have more control on the results then

Go to Live Trace >Tracing Options > Click on Preview and start playing with the values.

Hi Joe, I can't see the Live Trace on the object pull down menu, I have CS.

Andy, chen under the other pull down menus or check under all sub menus in object, maybe it is  inside some other option.

Or go to help and search for trace or live trace.

I have CS2.

Joe, as I read the previous topics about vectorizing it says that live trace feature can be found in CS2 & CS3, mine is CS1 only. Guess I'll download inkscape.

Thanks for your help, I have learned so many things from your post at the tutorial on how to do layered lettering in illy. This is such a great forum &    filled with friendly people. :thumbsup:

There is also a round about way to vector in Photoshop - do you have it?

But Inkscape is the bomb in the area, I would go with that route.

I have been in graphic design for nearly 10 years and have never seen a FREE program so useful and easy for vectoring.

yes I have photoshop CS polarkiss, I downloaded inkscape version for my mac mini 10.4(tiger) but it wouldnt open(dont know why coz I'm not really good with computers) Can you teach me how to vector in photoshop?
